This is a Korean-made DeArmond Pilot 5 in near mint condition. I acquired it through a trade with my friend and fellow TBer LarryK (great guy and a swell dancer). Turns out I have little if any need for it so she's back up on the block.

Here's what I know about it:

*Ash or alder (?) body

*Bolt on maple neck with rosewood fingerboard, 35" scale

*Active J/J pups with three band preamp

*Dunlop straplocks installed by yours truly

*Weight 9.5 - 10 lbs

*Truss rod cover - none...but who cares?

What can I say? Its a nice looking instrument with a nice wide neck for people who like that sort of thing. I personally set her up so the action is comfortably low without fret buzz. She'd make a great first 5 banger or back-up. The quality is surprisingly good for a midrange priced MIK instrument. The Pilot is $240 shipped....and for that you get the head, the tail, the whole damn fish!

Thanks for looking.

Election Day bump.

Remember: vote early and often!

Still available. To be truthful, I haven't even had a nibble. Despite the low price, its truly a great bass.

Here's the breakdown:

The bass is $200, shipping is $40. However, if the actual shipping costs comes in below $40, I'll send you a check for the difference.

Fair 'nuf?

Mainly vouching for the Pilot basses. I had a Pilot Plus 5 that looked remarkably similar [mine had a metal flake finish] that served me well. Main reason i don't play it now is the wide neck-my main bass is a StingRay5 [polar opposites of the neck spectrum]. Good luck w/the sale.

L.A., as in Lower Arkansas!
I think I can, I think I can......

Question on the wide neck. How wide? What can you compare it to? I don't mind wide if it's thin and flat.

I'm at work so I'll give it my best guesstimate:

The string spacing has got to be around 19mm or so. The fingerboard profile is fairly flat. The neck itself is thick but not clubby nor chunky. I would tend to believe that one would have more trouble adjusting to the string spacing than the neck profile. Comparison? I've never owned anything with a similar feel.

Aaaaaarrrrgh! I can't stand it -- all that shiny red goodness!

Is there a case or bag with that?
