For anyone who might be interested, I have practically the same bass (ash/maple/rosewood) that I string BEAD. It is light, very playable with the narrow MTD neck, and it sounds absolutely terrific. The B string is very solid behind that 35" scale.

In every string set I've seen that lists the tension of the different strings on the packaging, the B string exerts less tension on the neck than the G string. This is counterintuitive to me, but the D'Addario's and DR's that I've used have less tension when you string BEAD than when you string EADG. Sometimes when going from low B tuning to low E tuning, I have had to use less truss rod tension to get my favorite relief, and sometimes the tensions are close enough that no truss rod adjustment is necessary.

Those are super instruments however you string them!
