Just thought I'd throw this up here before it goes to Ebay in case anyones interested!
I have a 5 string G&L bass neck (from an L5500, but fit my L2500 perfectly!) from January 18th, 1996....it has a maple fretboard with a nut and string tree, but no tuners- it is a 4+1 headstock vs. the newer 3+2 as well. I used it on my 2005 L2500 as I decided I would prefer the maple snap on that bass, and I did much prefer it to the original neck. it also has a 1 7/8" nut width vs. the standard 1 3/4" nut width on new G&L 5 stringers, which I prefer- gives a wider string spacing, more like a 4 string. The profile feels nicer to me than my original neck as well- slightly thinner, maybe just because it's spread over a slightly larger area? All I had to do to make it work on my L2500 was push the bridge saddles back some to intonate properly...
It is in decent condition (great working condition, but obviously used!)- slight fret wear, some dings/ scratches- nothing that impedes the function. Truss rod works perfectly and neck is perfectly straight- can get lower action than my original neck! The nut looks pretty beat but works fine with no buzzing- a Fender 5 string nut fits perfectly, you just have to file the slots down some.
I recent bought a vintage L2000 and have never really felt as comfy on a 5 string anyway (not to mention that my cabinet is not the most B-string friendly!), so I'm selling the bass the neck was on sometime in the next couple-a-weeks (anyone interested in a kick-ass L2500?)...could use the money as well!
Here's a couple pics installed on my L2500 (note- tuners are not included, they are back on the original neck so I can sell the bass!- oh yeah- any newer G&L tuners will fit, I just used the ones from the OG neckl...):

I'm looking for $250 shipped Or Best Offer, or a trade (straight or + cash on your end) for something interesting: a looper pedal (like a Boss RC-20, or even better one of those newish Electro-Harmonix ones), a nice bass overdrive pedal (especially one with an extra boost switch- but no Fulltone!), a nice vintage tube/solid state amp (an Acoustic, Sunn, MusicMan etc...in good working condition), or something else interesting...
I'll probably be putting this on Ebay early next week if I don't get any interest here, so speak up!
