THANKS TALKBASS peeps!

The fretless thing isn't working for me and I am letting go of this awesome Rob Allen MB-2 four-string Fretless.

Financials:
I would like $1,400 for it including shipping. Canada and US only.
Paypal only accepted. I would prefer to post a "buy it now" on Ebay for further safety.

Condition:
This is a very new instrument (~18 months old). It is in excellent to mint condition. There is a tiny scratch and tiny indent that you can barely see or even find when you look for it. I took extreme close up pix of them so you can see them and know exactly what you are getting.

The bass is perfect except for those two blemishes. You could call it in perfect/mint but for those, so with them I would categorize the condition as excellent. The bass plays great and sounds amazing. Unbelievable "mwah" sound and great, low action.

Specs:
Birdseye Maple top
I believe it's an ash body, not 100%, semi-hollow
Ivoroid binding
Cocobolo fingerboard
Lined fretless
Strung with La Bella 760n extra long Nylon Tape wound
34" scale

Please look here for more and bigger photos:

No doubt it's a beaut. And it plays like butter and sounds like silk.

Comes with very high end gig bag.

Trades:
I an looking for the following gear for partial trades plus cash:
GK MB-2 500 or
Markbass F1 or
MarkBass Little Mark II or
Eden WTX-260 or
AND
Epifani UL-110 or
Bergantino AE-12
OR
Mark Bass MIni CMD 121P combo

In other words I need a really light speaker and a really light amp.

Not at all. Be patient. This bass has a small but loyal following. They seem to hang around for a little bit but always get sold. I'll have one some day... just not today.:bawl:

Hang in there, and a free bump.

Reasonable price and very comfortable design that's oh so light on the shoulders, usually ~6.5lbs or so and balanced! Despite being well known for the uprightish vibe, they also produce a very nice vintage thump.

Bump... Am I asking too much for this bass?

Not at all, If I didn't have a new one on order I would jump all over this. I might add that a new one is $2,100 PLUS shipping, so yours is priced to move. Unfortunately, as we all know, the economy blows right now so it might take a little bit. Good luck!

Bump for an absolutely terrific instrument. I had one with the same exact combination of woods (assuming ash is the body wood) and I SO regret selling it. The variety of tones from this bass is incredible - from punchy electric fretless to darn-near-upright, it covers the range.

I've owned two Rob Allens - a four and a fiver, and for the warmth of tone I really, really....really miss the four. I wish I was in a position to buy this one, because I will have another Rob Allen MB-2 four string one day. FWIW the highest endorsement I can offer: if I had $1,400, you'd have a buy-it-now immediately. All the best with the sale.

Bump...

I've had a couple trade/cash inquiries, but nothing is sticking. I'd be willing go down in price a [il]ittle[/i] bit, so throw me a realistic offer.

I am looking for the following gear:
Epifani UL-110 AND
GK MB-2 500 or MarkBass head or Eden WTX-260
OR
Mark Bass MIni CMD 121P combo

I need a new amp guys, and it needs to be light! (subway rider folks!) I also need to re-coup the difference in price for this bass, so throw some ideas my way, I'm listening.

Cheers everyone, happy thumping.

I'm a UK Based (Scotland) but would be willing to pay the shipping cost to the UK if there was a possibility of a Hard Case - doesn't need to be a good enough H/C for the bass - just good enough for shipping one-time, so I don't care if the case is really rough ?

I get paid next on November 03rd so if it's do-able then any time after that would be fine.

btw. I realise that I'm a brand-newbie here and haven't had a chance yet to even build up my profile. There's a whole stack of verifyable stuff about me on the web however as I'm a City Ambassador for Couch Surfing in the uk - Here's my profile:

I'm also a government employee and am Criminal record Checked:

So, if we can talk and getting it to the UK, getting you paid etc, is all do-able then at least you have a sale before Christmas and I have something to put under my tree ?

Hey ReToX:
I like that you have a sense of humor (the reTox thing).

Do you have a Paypal account and if not, can you open one?

Unfortunately i do not have a hard shell case. I do have a crappy one, but it won't fit-- because of the body depth of the Rob Allen I think we would need to get custom Rob Allen case would I would need you to buy and have shipped to me which is a whopping $225 from Rob.

The bass was shipped to me in a very sturdy gig bag surrounded by packing peanuts so I if we did this DHL or Fed-Ex I think we would be OK with using that method again. I will have it professionally packed and we should insure it the full amount just in case. (sorry for the pun)

What do you think of that idea?

Thanks for your email. I'll drop $50 from the price since you will pay for shipping so right now we are at $1,350 plus shipping.

Cheers

May I put in my 2 cents on packing........well, I'll do it anyway.

May I suggest finding a woodworker who can make a "coffin" out of plywood with 3/4 inch sides. I would pack the gig bag surrounded with bubble wrap in the "coffin" and then in a cardboard shipping box. Should be able to find someone with enough scrap plywood and boards to do the job.

I have had several basses shipped to me in the US in just gig bags and have been OK, but shipped a high end bass in a flight case and it was damaged.

Do what you want, but the other side of the pond is a long way off.....

RJM

I'll go for the best possible compromise with sturdy packing.

Sure, without a hard shell case there's always a risk but if couch surfing has taught me anything man, it's that there are times when Trust is an essential. I'll trust you to do your level best and I'm sure you will.

(You guys seem pretty tight, like a family anyhoo . . :-)

Yeah, I'll open up a 'Pay Pal' account to get that bit done and if you can figure out the shipping cost to Glasgow, Scotland UK then add that on to what I have to pay . . would you then pay the shipping based on me adding it on ??

Probably best for you to get a Fed-Ex quote or whatever from your end as you know the weight and dimensions (Packed) and of course where you are ?

As I said it's a week and a bit until I get paid but then I don't see any problem with getting the Pay Pal credited :-)

ReToX

All sounds good to me. I need to get this packed up and I'll get a quote. If I can't provide you the exact number, we'll tack that on afterwards-- I agree about the trust part.

The TalkBass community seems great-- but I'm new here too, so we're both just bringing our goodwill to the party.

As for the coffin, it's a great idea, but this is New York City. Simple things like this are expensive as hell and hard to find. NYC is great, but the smallest things here can be a huge pain and 2-4 times more expensive than in "normal" areas of the US.

Next steps.... Let me know when you get the paypal account set up.

Okey Doke,

I'll do the Pay Pal bit and give you ahout in the next day or two.

Have to remember that you guys are just getting up and about right now but here it's already 8.00pm . . . I'll do my best tho and get back to you.

Bill (ReToX)

ps. I tell my friends 'you can call me 'Re' - in fact, you already do in your emails . .'

Hey everyone,

I got to play a Bergantino AE-12 yesterday and loved it, so that is on my list of desires.

Cabinets considered for trade plus cash for this bass are:
AE-12
Epifani UL-110

Amps I'll trade for plus cash are:
GK MB2-500
MarkBass F1 or Little Mark
Eden WTX-260

Combo trade plus cash:
MarkBass Mini CMD121P combo

If you have both one of those cabs and one of those amps we would be very close to all out swap of gear. (I'm think you would need to send me about $350)

THANKS
