These can really help push a tube amp into overdriving. My rhythm guitarist has one and its like his little secret weapon. It can get you some nice subtle overdrive.

As long as your tube amp is set up so that it's gain structure is close enough to break-up, boosters like the LPB-1 are perfect for coaxing preamp and/or power amp drive.

If you have a tube amp in the vein of Orange, SVT, Hiwatt, etc - I think the LPB-1 (or any booster pedal) would be perfect for pushing it into od territory (with associated volume increase). Some tube amps may react differently, like a Mesa, newer model Fender, or other cleaner-leaning tube amp. (IMO, IME)

In my experience using the 400, it doesn't really want to break-up more when simply hit with a hotter signal. I would think that something like a Fulltone Fat-Boost (version 1) would work better on your amp as it also introduces some extra mid frequencies - thus giving you more crunch....
