I've been eyeing various preamps for a while now and this model intrigues me. I play a Stingray, G&L L2000, and Pedulla Rapture currently through a Demeter tube MIC pre using it's DI ins, into a Stewart 2.1 into a Bag End 2x12 or 4x10.
It's a super clean, loud rig, but I do want more coloration from the pre-amp stage. (The Demeter is a great mic pre, but not up to snuff as a bass pre, althoug I've no complaints.) I mostly want a tube saturation, "Jaco-ish" sound. Do you think the Bmax-T fits that bill? "Agressive" is a good descriptor of the tone-in-my-head.
I have not tried to get the sound you are looking for, but from I have read about this pre is that you can dial what ever sound you want. Sounds like this would serve you well.
Bmax-T tube version is warmer and more tubey sounding (logically). I'd say it teeters back and forth between warm tube and modern tube depending on how you have it set and the basses you play through it. Add a bit more Maximizer and it get's very modern sounding especially with active basses.
I bought it from a fellow TB'r and have only had it for a couple months. I used it for one gig and a few practices. It is in really good shape, I don't think the person I bought it from used it a lot either. Thanks for the question

Used it yes. I was the original owner of the pre. The only reason I sold it was because I purchased a Shuttle 6. Hauling the rack to church to accompany an acoustic piano and a choir hardly dictated a 1,200 watt QSC and the BBE preamp. I dialed the exact same sound in with my new amp so I sold the rack.
If you know how to use the "Fender tone stack" (which I think fender stole from RCA) then you can get any sound you need from this preamp.
Oh, and free bump. This thing has only had church gigs under its belt. Low volume church gigs.
