Details

Offered here is my 1990 PRS Bass. It's truly one of the best basses I've ever owned and is every bit a handmade PRS, but I'm not playing it much so here goes.

Serial ## is 119, putting it (approx) in 1990. Serial ## details are available from PRS here: http://prsguitars.com/csc/year.html

It features:

  • Mahogany body
  • Bolt-on rock maple neck
  • Brazilian rosewood fretboard (with awesome figure to it)
  • Mother of pearl 'moon' dot inlays
  • Switchable active electronics with three single-coil pickups and a dummy coil.
About the electronics: The pickups are wired to a five-way rotary that allows you to select any single pickup (which wires in the dummy coil too to cancel hum) or the neck and middle, or middle and bridge pickup combinations. Two-band active EQ offers a bass boost and a treble boost (similar to an Aguilar preamp). You can also use the bass passive too by using its toggle switch. The net result is a <b>LOT</b> of possible tone variations. I can get a Jazz tone and lots of other nice modern sounds very, very quickly with this arrangement.

Neck shape is very similar to a Jazz, but faster. There's no neck dive which makes it great to play, and it's nice and light. It's been played, as you can see in the pictures, but is far from abused and still looks great.

I have the case candy (which amounts to a truss wrench, warranty card, piece of paper diagramming the preamp controls and a sticker) and a PRS leather strap that go with it. It just received a fresh setup with Rotosound Swing 66es. Action is wicked low and sounds awesome. Original tolex HSC included.

No longer for sale - Thanks for the interest!

Thanks, TB!

I had a 5 string version of this bass at one point. The neck was one of the better necks I've played. Great workmanship as well.

This is a good deal for a unique bass.

Cool bass. I remember reading an article on this years ago, and it was mentioned that the front pickup could be lowered flush for slapping space with no real loss of volume.

I might consider a trade, really depends on what it is. Feel free to PM trade offers.

I'm happy to measure string spacing - in practice it feels just like my Jazz, and I've never had a problem playing slap on it, but I'll post back with its actual spacing.

Someone else asked a weight question - I weighed it last night on a high-end digital bathroom scale, and it came in at 8.4lbs.

Thanks for all the interest!

You say it has a J-type neck? Didn't know these were 1.5" at the nut...

I've measured string spacing at the bridge - .5", exactly the same as my Jazz.

Measured width at the nut - Just a smidge shy of 1 11/16" , so slightly wider than a Jazz but only slightly so.

Sunday morning bump!
