WOW!!! That's an awesome bass at an unbelievably low price. These sell new for over $4500!!!!

I received my '86 NS2 Spector from Carey Nordstrand yesterday (review to follow soon). I'm thinking of posting my Sadowsky for trade/sale to get another Spector; I really like the ergonomics of these basses a lot. I have a bum right shoulder and the small body size helps a lot with seated playing. What is the body wood on this one?

BTW: I've done business with "straight shooter" Tim.

It sure is. Are these 34" or 35" scale BTW?

EDIT: Oh, and I had a friend that claimed the inlays were not mother of pearl, but plastic, and that the bridge was the kind used on cheaper Spectors. I disagree with him, because I thought all American NT Spectors had MOP/Abalone inlays and brass bridge?

All of the "Stuart Spector Design"-branded basses ('91-'98, when Stuart got the rights for the "Spector Basses" name and trademark back after Kramer's bankruptcy - SSD's are virtually the same as "Spectors" except for the "SSD" headstock inlay and "Stuart Spector Design LTD." truss rod cover as opposed to the "Spector" headstock inlay and truss rod cover) were 34" scale: Stuart didn't go to 35" 5 & 6-strings until the late '90s/early '00s

You're correct/your friend's incorrect on both counts: All American NT, whether SSD or Spector, basses have the primarily Abalone inlays as well as the "classic" Spector brass bridge. I highly doubt they could get away with their USA NT prices with plastic inlays.

Edit: Then again, in the second photo where you can see the inlays on your bass the clearest they do look more like the Euro's MOP inlays as opposed to the Abalone inlays of traditional USA NSs. But the review of an SSD NS-5P(iezo) in Bass Player's March 1994 5th Anniversary Issue clearly shows Abalone inlays in the review bass. Best to give Spector a call: PJ Rubel should be able to answer any question you have about it, and is a great guy to chat with in general about Spectors of any era.

...also, killer bass. If I had the means right now, I'd be taking a run at it.

the inlays on these year basses were mothe rof pearl , not abalone . the bridge was the satin finish bridges that were the exact same bridges used on the import models at that time and also into the first euro series . im not sure if it is solid brass or not . i dont think it is . i can tell you this is one awesome mofo bass !!!! and the preamp is absolutely killer !!! most all of the info on ssd/spectors can be found on the ssdbass.com website under history ....

Thanks for the info guys. I've been thinking abalone and MOP is the same thing, but now I see that MOP also is called Nacré, and that they are two related species. Abalone has more color while nacré tends to be more purely white. Abalone is a clam, nacre a spiral (don't know the biological term).

Really cool bass though! Had it been a 5-string I don't think I'd be able to resist it either...

Spector didn't go to abalone until their newer run....and the bridge is consistent with what they used in this era. Everything is original, and untampered USA spector on this. If the buyer wants, I will throw in a kramer era brass bridge (no saddles)

hey tim , i dont think that other bridge will fit the bass . seems like the kramer era bridge was a little narrower and more square edged .
