I bought simultaneously this head and a Mesa M6 Carbine to A/B and I'm keeping the M6 mostly because it's a little more simpler and a little lighter, otherwise it's a toss-up. I actually slightly prefer the more tubey sound of the Mpulse, but I can't keep both heads. Got this from Pickles and it's immaculate including the original documentation.
The sound? Well if you like tube warmth and tons of headroom, with an ability to get a great variety of tones, this head is for you. The footswitch activates a solo volume, the parametric EQ section, compressor and effects loop.
