Details

blackline era magnavox '72ish Ampeg SVT. NOS GE 6550's with plenty of life left. recently had the ungrounded 2 prong cable upgraded to a 3 prong cable because the two prong's lack of a ground kept shocking me to death. the preamp was recently partially retubed by Bruce who runs fliptops.net and lives a street over from me, he went over the rest of the amp and was vastly impressed by the condition and tone. comes with halfass ebay roadcase, I mostly liked it for the spring loaded handles because the slat handles on the sides of the SVT suck to carry.

price drop! $1500 shipped.

Guy, I have that same Acoustic 106 cab. Circa 1974. 1 owner.
You must be old like me. :p

haha, I'm 20 as of saturday, I just collect and take care of my gear like an old guy. that 106 has 70's or 80's series 2 EV's loaded into it, sounds incredible :).

They were originally shipped with Eminence 15' drivers.
Altec Lansings were offered as an upgrade, just FYI.

The rig 140 head + 106 cab cost about 700 bucks back in 75.
Big money back then.

Good luck on your SVT sale, looks like a great rig, well maintained it sounds like.

yeah, the emi/altecs were what was offered. this was eventually reloaded outside the factory EV series 2 cones though at some point before I owned it.

anyway, time to get the discussion back on the topic of the SVT :). thanks for the positive regards!

Why are you selling? I always like to know.

I love this amp, but it's just too loud. if you knew me in person at all you'd say I was total hypocrite for saying that something was too loud, because I, of all people, love volume. the issue I have with it is simply playing smaller venues/practice rooms and drowning out the whole band. the real issue is in the fact that I love to drive my amps naturally, so I need to turn this up to get the tones I desire..and by then, the only thing you can hear is the snare drum and the crash. most people who are using these practically and as they are intended wouldn't have nearly the same problem. I'm probably going to replace it with an Orange AD200 and see if cutting 100 watts of headroom makes it easier for me to land the tones I desire in the same mix.

edit: also, would definitely straight trade this for an Orange AD200B at any point if anyone is interested, I had another thread going for that trade a bit back.
