I REALLY hate to sell this one but I need to clear some stuff out and I could use some cash too.

The two switches are sort of a coil tap, one for each pickup. They can be used to cut some fullness from the Darkstars. The switches were installed before I got the bass. It was a clean job and they look original.

This bass has GREAT tone and GREAT feel. Has one small ding on the body as shown, otherwise in nearly new condition with absolutely no issues.

This was my bass for a while. The tone is off the hook, the new owner will be VERY pleased. You gotta try a DarkStar'd bass once in your life. ;)

How about modern passive? Not really a full on modern MTD or Smith type sound, but has a nice edge and fair amount of growl. Also not a full on vintage tone, yet does have a nice fullness without being too boomy or muddy. I always leave the (coil tap?) switches on the bigger fuller sound, but they can be flipped to thin the tone out quite a bit if desired. I only play fingerstyle and this bass is a sweetheart! Especially when played hard. The Darkstars really shine with some dynamic playing.

Also also... This bass is quite light and super comfortable. I would guess less than 8 lbs, and when hanging on the strap it feel small somehow. Feels like it must be only a 30" scale. When I first got it I actually had to get the tape measure to see if I had bought a short scale by mistake. Cliff remembered to put the magic in when he built this one.

Just to clarify- The switches couldn't be coil taps, as these are single coil pickups (and I HIGHLY doubt somebody uncoiled and rewired the pickups in order to make a proper coil TAP). If I remember correctly, the old owner wired this with bypassable capacitors on each pickup much like the bass-cut capacitor found on vintage Rickenbacker bridge pickups. A really useful feature on these very bass-heavy pickups ( I actually did a similar thing on the bridge pickup of my Darkstar'd Jazz).

A hot bass for sure!

I didn't realize you could use a cap to cut bass, but that sounds correct. Thanks sunbeast!
