I've got an AIMS 610 from the 70's. Still in good condition, looks like the drivers might be original. Cabs rated at 5.3 ohms. Local pickup only.

They built those suckers in Phoenix, AZ.

Way back when I played guitar and had one of their VTG-105's. Self contained 105 watts RMS 4-10's. It screamed.

They also made the same thing in 6-10's. Toured their factory had their amp tech mod my 105 up to 130 watts RMS the thing really screamed then but blew speakers.

Is that cab a stand alone cab? Or one that had the head chopped off and turned into a cabinet? The original speakers had chrome dust caps with a small black hole in the center. I think they were Eminence. I think AIMS was bought out in the end by Randall.

Their cabs were always built like a tank.

Correct! They're from Phoenix, and they were distributed by Randall. You'd know better than me about the drivers, though! That's awesome that you got to go to the factory like that! The 610 cab is stand alone, btw. :) I bought the VTB-120 head (now pushing closer to 180w), but I'm using Bill Fitzmaurice cabs.

I think $300 is a damn fine deal for this cab after hearing it, though. It's still in good condition.

Those AIMS tranny's were capable of putting out way more watts than they were rated for. The AIMS designer went with overkill to get a loud clean sound. They ran those 6550's very clean. Up the wattage, run the tubes hotter and they will put out a lot more power. I think I have a schematic for the VTG series if you need a copy PM me.

Wish I was up there I'd buy that cabinet. BUMP for a cool cab and a great piece of amp history :)
