For sale FS: Dr. Bass BL1260

I'm intrigued. Is the Deltalite not the usual neo speaker used in these cabs? Was it originally loaded with a ceramic speaker? Are you interested in any possible trades? I do have an Ashdown ABM500 head I'm planning to put on the market...

It is interesting. I'm not the original owner, so I don't know the history. I can't quite imagine what 12" driver would be 600W, which is what the sticker says on the back. It's definitely got a Deltalite II-2512, which is 250W rms, according to Eminence. And the mid-range is the LA6-CBMR (closed back 6"). No rattles, no issues, no problems. Just a solid little box with good, solid sound.

Well, I got it because I wanted a small, reasonably light cabinet. I've played it with the GK MB2-500, and with a GB shuttlemax. I liked it a lot, but everyone has their own preferences. But here's a link to another thread with a good description: I think the operative phrase is "kill with clarity":

The only thing I can imagine is that this is my old cabinet. If the seller bought this from Dr.Bass late last year, it's the one. I can answer questions about it. It's a fine cabinet. I traded it in on a DRB1260 slant.

Quite possible! I picked it up off the "Steals and Deals" page in August, while Dr. Bass was relocating to new quarters, so this might be the same one. There's no question about it being a solid cabinet with quality components. It's just a question of who can use it!

I see you recently sold a Schroeder 15+L - did you ever pair this DRB with the Schro? If so, how would you describe the pair's strengths and weaknesses? I ask because I currently have a Schroeder 15+L 8 ohm...

Yes, absolutely. For one thing, they stack nicely (almost exactly the same width). I picked up the 15+L because I was intrigued by the super light weight. Since you already have one, I don't need to tell you it's a remarkable cabinet. It seems like the 1260 is often paired with a 115 (I think that was Dr. Bass's personal configuration), and with two 8-ohm cabinets, it works out fine. So that's what I was going for. But when paired with the 15+L, it seemed to me that the 1260 was providing the low bass, rather than vice versa. The 1260 is really a full-range cabinet, and the 6" driver adds clarity without adding hiss. I like the sound of the 1260 better than the 15+L, and it seems like a more useful all-round cabinet, but then I don't play super loud.

That's it, then. My former cab. I bought the cab used from Scotius2001 here on TB back around 2004. He was the original owner.

I replaced the crossover board, which was cracked in two in transit, with a new one that Marc provided. I used the cab for a couple of theatre shows, and a few times at church, then sold it to Larry Donovan (ldervish). Larry kept it about a year, redid the cabinet padding to Marc's specs, then sold it back to me (I missed it!)

The second time I had it I replaced the tweeter with a new Eminence APT-50 from Marc after the original went out, and I also replaced the original Eminence Delta LF 12" with a new Deltalite 2512. So most of the components, other than the midrange, have been recently replaced or upgraded with new parts!

It wasn't long after I swapped the 12"s that I traded it in to Marc on the DRB1260 Slant. Marc changed out the old-style grille and logo for the current style, and then the rest of the cab's history is already stated in this thread.

It's an excellent cabinet, and that's a nice price on it. Big bump!

Wow -- thanks for the genealogy bump! Imagine if every cabinet here on TB had this kind of history. Most are shrouded in mystery, like little orphans. Clearly, this one has had a lot of love, and it's been treated well here at my house (heated basement, no smoking, no pets, no problems). So hopefully it will find a loving home!

Here's a re-bump for btp and a nostalgic one for my BL1260.

The recent issues that Dr.Bass has experienced are too-well-discussed here on Talkbass. I don't know what the future holds for the company, but I do know for most of the 2000's Marc built very solid, well designed and thought-out cabs. He also stood behind his product. This BL1260 cabinet was one of his best small cabinet designs. If you've never heard one, they are clear, bright, punchy, and amazingly loud. Plus this cabinet has upgraded and recent parts, so it will play great for many years to come.

Very cool cab. How doe these sound for slap and aggressive style playing? I actually live in Grand Rapids, but study in Chicago. I am going to be in town in a few weeks for spring break. Hmm, local pickup?

I'm really not good at describing tone -- the Chef (in that thread mentioned above) does a better job. He describes this as a "hi-fi" sort of cabinet -- not necessarily flat frequency response -- but with the 3-way design, it really does have excellent clarity in the midrange. Harmonics really sing out, especially with round-wound strings. So I would think that this would be very effective for slap. As for "aggressive", I'm not sure what to say: it's just one 12" cabinet, you know what I mean? No Magic Underpants here. Just quality components in a solid little box.
