Hey all, selling my Ampeg Portabass 250 head. To me this amp sounds louder than 250 watts - plenty loud to be heard with a band. The sound is very clear and punchy, but also growls when you crank it, and not in a bad, solid-statey sort of way. Definitely not in a tube way either, obviously, but I think this guy cuts through pretty well. The sound is very even, not particularly colored. Some think the sound is a bit bland, but I guess it depends on what you're going for. To me, if you like your bass, this thing sounds really good with a flat EQ.
Anyway, this one is in really great shape and includes a really nice padded case. I think there's maybe one scratch along the top, but otherwise it looks new. At one point some of the innards were blown due to user error (oops), but I just spend $195 having it professionally repaired at Good Guys in St. Paul. Most of this was in labor (the amp wasn't completely destroyed and rebuilt or anything). Anyone from the area knows that these guys know what they're doing. I'm just selling this one because I prefer combos and recently picked up an Aguilar AG 500 that rules.
I'm thinking $300 shipped (or best offer) in the continental US of A. I'll ship elsewhere, but it'll cost extra. I may be persuaded to do a partial trade for certain things, but I do need to get some cash out of this. Some trade ideas include a smallish pedalboard (preferably powered), a nice tremolo pedal, some sort of POG, a Foxrox Octron, an Aguilar Octamizer, etc. Feel free to run stuff by me.
