Picked this up last year, but I've been too scared about scratching it to play it! The bass that I traded for it is actually up for trade on the classifieds right now, and seeing it yesterday made me think that it may be time to let this bass go to an owner who will play it as much as it deserves. I'm not the original owner, so here's the description from the gentleman from whom I acquired it:
Well I have a Tune Twb4 flamed maple original fretted bass. It's a seldom seem but much adored bass by those in the know. Tune started making these basses about 1988 (I got mine in 1990) with the help of an Alembic designer. They were top end then. They were built part in Japan, part in California. I got the first one in the UK, so it's a bit rare. Tune then went bust in 2002, but a Korean company started
making copies of them, but they're not the same, at all! Mine is original. They have become kinda collectable. I suspect mine would be worth oh...$1400 on the market but it's the time it would take and all that. It's a players bass. It is perfect, unmarked apart from a little polish wear on the bridge. I know basscentral are selling a 6 string with pearl inlays, identical to mine for $3700! Go figure.
It's also worth noting that the bass will be shipped in a custom made (semi-flight? I'm not familiar with the terminology.) case that was provided by the previous owner. This thing is solid. He claimed that he had "literally jumped up and down on it" with no problems. I've never tried the same thing, but I don't doubt it. For the bass and case together, I'm asking $1400. I kind of need the money, but despite my better judgment, I'm going to say that trades are also kosher. I'm particularly interested in fretless basses, but I'm willing to consider anything.
