I picked this bass up to see if the magic of MTD was my tonal home. This is a fantastic bass and it really nails the classic MTD vibe. I just don't reach for it often enough, so it's time to move on to something else.

This an early MTD 635 with a korina body and wenge neck and fingerboard which makes for loads of classic MTD tone with plenty of low mid punch and growl. Sounds equally great for slap or fingerstyle. It has been refinished in antique white, with the wenge left natural - really makes for a great contrast. I believe the refinish was done by Chicago Guitar & Amplifier.

There are one or two small dings and an extra strap button hole that could be filled easily. The button hole is the only thing visible at a few feet away. I can get current pics on request.

The only straight across trade I am likely to consider would be for a Sadowsky. I'm open to other trades but they would need to include cash on your end. I would be very interested in a 5 string MIA Fender.

I'm passing on the lowest price I had ever seen on an American-made MTD.

Thanks for looking!

Edit: Can't believe I forgot pics!

Took pictures today. As you can see, the finish has some imperfections. Only really noticeable around the neck bolt holes and output jack cavity. There is one small ding on the upper bout (where your forearm probably rests while playing). I tried to detail any flaws with the pictures. One thing I noticed when taking it out today was some faint blueish markings near the pickups. I didn't notice them until I took it outside in the sunlight this afternoon. I tried to show them in the pics but couldn't really get them to photograph. There is an extra strap button hole which could be filled easily. I left it open so the next owner could make the choice without the need for a drill. If you'd like, I'll fill it before shipping.

(No, it's not touching the ground in this pic. As I said above, I'll fill the extra strap hole if you'd like.)

I find the white works really well with the wenge fingerboard, black hardware/pickup covers and the white nut. I generally prefer the look of wood but this one's got a little something going on. Good luck with the sale!

Is the fingerboard also wenge? It looks significantly darker. Possibly ebony or rosewood?

If you look at the close-up shot of the headstock you can see the very wenge-like grain near the nut. I've had wenge boards that are milk-chocolatey and others that are much darker (almost cola-coloured).

All PMs replied to, I think. If I missed you, please let me know.

I assume the refinish was done because a previous owner wanted an all-white MTD. Also, given that this is an earlier serial, it's likely the body may have had noticeable wear. In any case, the refinish looks great and, to my eye, gives this bass a bit of a vintage/classic vibe that's very unique for an MTD.

The fingerboard and neck are both definitely wenge. The neck sometimes looks lighter in some lighting but it usually looks very similar to the color of the fingerboard.

I am willing to ship internationally. I haven't done it before but I figure it can't be too difficult.

How does it sound?

Killer. The Korina/Wenge/Wenge combo seems to have a bit more mid punch than my old 535 with the Tulip/Wenge/Wenge.

I haven't tried it through my church rig yet. Can't wait to see how it sounds through it. I was just playing it through my crappy Ibanez Soundwave practice amp, so it really doesn't do it any justice.

I'll have to let you know what I think on Sunday. I have my WT800 running through a 2x10 Goliath and 1x15 SOB. That will give me a more realistic idea of how it going to perform.

Plays great though. I love Mike's necks.
