David King - Nate Query - C Bass...
I bought this from (fellow Portlander) Nate a while back.
I met David in 1987 when our bands shared a gig, he was playing his headless A or B bass. Anyway we chatted for bit and he invited me to his shop to check out the build process. While there was no way I could afford to buy a bass from him at the time, he graciously loaned me one for week.
Fast forward to last year when Nate but this up for sale, I bought it in a heart beat - been wanting a King bass for nearly 40 years.
No sure of the exact progression this has gone through since '95 when Nate bought it, but it has had a few different preamps. Currently it has the Bart pre with the separate mid control module (the mid switch is inside the cavity and probably could be moved to one of the hidden holes)...
At some point it had a pre with two switches, the hole s are covered by the oval abalone looking thing. The pickups appear to be Bart BD's.
Frets are in good shape for a 31 yo bass, there are a dings in the body and nothing substantial.
With the strap on the upper pin the bass slings low at the body with the neck brought close in (like at a 35 degree angle), lower pin it sits more like a J.
I think it would look amazing if it was refinished in gloss finish!
Sadly I am not a headless guy nor a big fan of Bart pups and preamps and I don't want to mod this - so for sale it is.
