This version 1 Dingwall Combustion 5 string bass is in very good condition. The bass plays and sounds great and of course has the "Voice of God" B string that Dingwalls are famous for. I haven't seen a ton of these in Transparent White and with the pearl pickguard and maple neck, it looks quite good in my opinion. I'm not certain of the age of this bass as I bought it used but it is the version 1, so the 2-band pre-amp is engaged all the time and can not be played in passive mode like newer versions.

This bass has been played, as all Dingwalls should be, the frets are in good condition but slightly scuffed from the stings on the fanned frets, the wear is similar to other Dingwalls I have owned. There are a few minor paint chips. Two are on the front and five are on the back, nothing huge but they are there (See Pics, one chip on the back has got slightly larger since these pictures were taken). There are a few small whites spots/imperfections in the finish here and there that are about the size of the nicks that I have pictured, they are hardly noticeable but are there if you look.

The controls are Volume, Volume, Bass and Treble. I installed the B-Boost magnet kit that I bought from Dingwall to help give the B sting more power. Also an EMG PA-2 boost preamp was installed by a previous owner (see pics). It was professionally done by the look of things and has a toggle switch that can turn it on or off. Everything is wrapped in foam and neatly tucked away in the control cavity. I just left it on as it definitely gives the bass a boost but it can easily be turned off and run without it.

The bass weighs 8 lbs 12 oz which I think is pretty respectable for a 5 string. Included is an SKB hard shell case in good condition except for the 4 small feet/buttons on the edge that were broken off when I got it. The case still works fine without the little feet things.

Asking $975 (US Dollars)

***Buyer to pay actually shipping*** (Approx $60 [Cdn dollars] to Canada and Approx $75-$90 [US dollars] in the USA depending on were you are. I can get an accurate quote from the Canada Post website once I know your location).

Paypal is fine.

Please let me know if you have any questions. I'm only selling as I also have a Canadian built ABI and my kids college fund needs the cash more than I need a backup 5 string right now.

I have the same with a rosewood FB...how did you end up with a maple fingerboard?!?

Best buy, folks. Some of the best QC I've seen. One minor niggle: the finish is somewhat brittle like the candy shell on an M&M. This is a very transparent EMG BTS preamp with user-selectable treble freq center DIP array.

Hey Riis,

Thanks for the comments, it is a great playing and sounding bass. I agree with the comments about the finish (especially on the back) and you can see in the pictures that it is not prefect. That said I think it will continue to be durable for years to come with a bit of care.

To your question about the maple fret board, I bought it used as you see it in the pictures. I know a maple board is an option on the Combustion model. It may have been swapped with another bass if this colour only came with rosewood, I really can't say. Regardless, I think the blond/maple is a great combination and looks killer with the pearl guard. It's not going to be everyone's cup of tea but it's definitely a bit of an unusual look for a Combustion.

Very cool bass! Great seller! Good luck with the sale.

This would be a great bass for anyone "On the Fence" about Dingwall basses. The bass sounds and plays great and is an affordable option for those testing the Dingwall waters. If it's not your thing you should be able to resell it for the purchase price.
