Here’s a chance to own an incredibly crafted 5 string custom bass built by master-luthier Andrew Drake out of Iowa. I’ve owned a few Drake basses at this point, and I’m always blown away with the playability, tone, and overall quality of his basses. The EMG electronics on this one sound amazing coupled with the chambered mahogany body, and the 33” scale and thin neck make it a breeze to play.

This one is in really nice plying shape with a straight neck and low action (I play with a soft touch). I currently have it setup E-C and it sounds great. When I first bought the bass it was setup B-G, so I will include the original B string if you choose to swap back.

The previous owner also had the frets professionally replaced, leveled, and dressed. The new stainless steel frets look and feel great. There are various wear marks, scratches, dings, and gauges on the body and neck of the bass, but overall it’s in very good condition.

Asking $1450 Shipped Fully Insured Con US only

Trade wise I'm mainly interested in 32"-34" scale 4 string basses with multiple pickups, but I'm open to anything. Local deals are strongly preferred.

Trade Value - $1450

The picture of the back of the neck looks clean. Where are the neck dings? Really like this!!

Ah, thanks. Yeah, that’s criminal!! LOL! Do you think they can be sanded or you don’t really feel them because they’re on the treble side?

I have the same EMGs in my Model 7 and it's the guitar my band leader insists I play on stage and record. I think they have a great sound

Good to know! Which preamp do you have? I prefer to have an onboard midrange control but I'll give this one a chance to impress me.

I believe it's the same as yours. I get all the tone colors I'm looking for out of it, but tend to go between stingray and P bass. I like the P/J configuration tone

The Drake arrive Friday. Really impressed with it—33” and 17mm string spacing works quite well. And the build quality is stellar. Tried a few sets of strings before settling (for now) on EB rounds (.40s)—Chromes sounds nice, too. I solo the back pickup 90% of the time and have played Jazz Basses most of my life, though the last year or so I’ve used a Stingray Special for a bit more heft. I think the pickups will work just fine but I might swap in one of the EMG preamps that has a mid control, master volume, blend, and stacked treble/bass. Or just leave it as is…
