TRADED...

I'll miss her :crying:

It is with a bit of reluctance that I offer up my Fernandes APB-5 for trade. I am the only owner and it’s been a solid instrument since purchased new in 1997. It was my first really nice bass and it still is a really nice bass. But I must admit, I favor my Yamaha RBX5 A2 more and the Fernandes gets little playtime these days. So, I’d like to experiment and see what else is out there in the 5 string market.

These MIJ models were highly regarded when first introduced. Likely made at the Figi-Gen guitar factory (http://www.fgnguitars.com/index.html), Fernandes was putting out very high quality guitars back then that are nothing like the more budget minded models built today. Rocco Prestia from Tower Of Power was known to have played the 4 string version of this bass.

Specs;

Scale: 34 inches

String Spacing: 17.5mm (adjustable +/- 0.5mm at bridge)

Neck construction: 3 piece laminated maple

Fingerboard: Rosewood

Body: Swamp Ash

Finish: Natural with gloss lacquer

Pickups: Custom F.G.I pickups

Hardware: Gototh gold plated

Electronics: Active two band EQ 9v powered

Weight: 9lbs (approx)

The condition is conservatively speaking 9 out of 10. I honestly can’t find any flaws but I won’t say a 17 year old instrument is perfect. It’s only been used for studio recordings. I just had it to my tech for adjustment and it plays great with a serious gowlin’ tone. Comes included with a basic soft case.

I might be interested in a sale but for no less than $650 firm plus shipping. Trades I’m most interested in are 5 strings like the Ibanez BTB775PB, Lakland Skyline 55-01 or 55-02, MTD Kingston Heir, Tobias Growler (mid/late 90's), Reverend Mercalli, Spector Legend, Warwick $$ Corvette, or almost anything else. Trade can be even up or with cash either way depending on what is offered. Sorry, CONUS only for this deal. While I have not done much trading on TB, additional trade references (ebay and other forums) can be provided if you’d like.

Thanks for looking,

TJ

Here's an update with a few questions I've been asked an answered.

The string spacing is adjustable at the bridge with individual rollers to about +/- 0.5 mm. You can move the spacing of each string to however you want it.

While the horn only reaches to the 13th fret, there's no neck dive sitting or standing. It's very balanced.

The pre-amp is whisper quiet at any setting.

The B & E string do pass through the bridge to the body where there are small holes just big enough to fit. It's a bit odd, but does let those strings ring very well. I typically don't set it up that way just to make string changes easier.

The bass was completely gone over just about a month ago by my tech who works at GC. We spent together about an hour working out every possible buzz I could throw at it. I took it to a rehearsal the other night. Everything felt solid. I can honestly say it's never played better since I bought it new. Thing is, the only reason I took it in to my tech was because it was sitting unplayed for so long while my Yamaha got all the attention. It was never a bass used for gigs. It's only been used in the studio.

As I've played this bass over the last few days, I'm still on the fence about letting it go. It just seems too undervalued IMO. So if you also on the cusp of pulling the trigger, please do so before I change my mind :D

Thanks for looking.
