I thought it was sacrilegious to say anything bad about D’Addario strings on here, but truth be told, I tried the Chromes on my old G&L L2K-E, and they had the most uneven response up and down the fretboard and they accentuated the Fender dead spot on the G string far more than any other string I’ve ever used. And that bass has a tank of a swamp ash body that feels like it weighs most of the nearly 11 pounds of the bass - it normally resonates amazingly well. Liking the Dunlop flats a lot more.

Truth be told there's nothing of the sort going on here, so I'm not sure where you got that impression. If anything, GHS is the closest to subforum darling status, followed by DR, La Bella, Dunlop and Thomastik-Infeld.

I guess I wasn't patient enough. I tried Chromes once and didn't like them either. GHS and Dunlop flats sound good right out of the box, no need to endure a six month break-in period.

Yeah, man, I hear ya - have tried them a few times over the years. Outta the box--kinda harsh. And then, they do not get better with age. They just become sort of lifeless (compared to Labellas in particular).

Well, you didn’t give them the four to six months they need to break in. So if they’re on your only bass, I guess I get it. But I have an eight year old set on a MIM Pbass and they sound wonderful.
They sound like farts.
What do they sound like after "breakin"?....
...farts.
