Price reduction; asking $2750
For your consideration, a unique fretted 30” Mouse with custom preamp and magnetic pickup.
Overall this bass is in excellent condition with virtually no visible fret wear. There are a few tiny dings and some wear around the truss rod channel (Not by me!) Other than that, there is only minor player’s wear. It has been well cared for and only gigged occasionally. Pictures make the dings look worse, if anything.
Some time after I got this bass, it started draining batteries, and I contacted Rob Allen about the issue. At first he suspected it was a standard Fishman preamp that can fail but we soon discovered this was not the case. (It turns out a wire had been pinched and was causing a slow drain. This was fixed by Mike Lull Guitars) Here is our correspondence after I sent him a picture of the internals:
“Hi Philip- ok, this is quite different than what I expected! this is a "one off" custom instrument......not at all like a standard Mouse 30.
…. This is a very early version of the Deep 4 electronics, custom made by Seymour Duncan for me, and combines a preamp and an EQ card, hence all the stuff you see there.
To be perfectly honest, I do not recall making the bass, or what the particular controls do, although I can see that it is my handiwork......I can say that the green pot on its side is a master tone control, the top part is treble, the lower brass ring is bass. This is cut/boost with a center detent. It looks like it may have a push/pull pot, this probably to bring in the EQ.....(?)
Can you send me a photo of the front of the body please? ….
What a surprise!!”
Picture sent, his reply:
“Oh boy, this is one of the nicest custom basses I ever made!!!!! I remember it well now. It’s a pau ferro top. One of a kind
Umm, how much do I have to pay to get it back?
I looked up your bass, all I have listed is that it was made in March of 2004, in Santa Barbara, Ca, and that it is in fact Pau Ferro. That's all I could find
”
I added an ebony thumb rest; this is attached with double stick tape and should be reversible, but is useful and cleanly executed.
Bass is strung with La Bella tapewounds, but I will include a set of what I believe are Chromes that came with the instrument.
The knobs on the bridge control volume (upper), and blend (lower.) One can pan fully between piezo and magnetic pickups. Push/pull on the lower knob engages EQ. It is a very versatile bass.TBH I never messed with the internal trim pots.
Nut width is 42 mm, bridge spacing just under 19mm (55mm total E-G measured on center) Weight is a mere 6# 6oz.
I received this bass w/o a case; it now includes a gray Gator Transit gig bag which it fits well.
Asking $3500; well packed, insured, and shipped CONUS. LMK if you have questions.
