So I made a big mistake... I was giving my Tribute L-2000 a thorough cleaning and noticed gunk around the pole pieces. With the other L-2000 I had, the pickup covers slid off easily on their own. But when I went to clean this one, it didn't come off so easily. When I applied more force, it pulled some of coil windings with it!!! Apparently there was glue on the center divider of the cover, and it adhered to some wires. I didn't even test the pickup. Just assume it's dead. I was quite bitter for at least a week!

From what I understand, the pickups in the USA and Asian Tribute G&Ls are all the same American-made. This is used on the L-2000, L-1500, L-1000, and ASAT basses. New L-series 4 string pickups are $105 shipped:

Pickup - L-Series - Four String

SO.. if you're a pickup guy, this is your chance to see exactly how these are wound without destroying a good pickup. Or maybe you want to re-wind it hotter! Or maybe you just want the cover!

EDIT: This will come with a Brand New cover that came with my new replacement pickup.

Price includes PayPal and shipping in the lower 48 States. Will ship worldwide at extra cost.

you could send this for rewinding ... Pete Biltoft at Vintage Vibe Guitars could likely resurrect it for you...

I just received the new one I ordered from G&L. Otherwise, I would've looked into getting it rewound.

Price drop $35 to $25. Also, this will come with a brand New cover that came in my new replacement pickup!

Awesome! Let me know if you are successful and how you did it!! I'm guessing rather than counting exactly how many windings are in each coil, you just use similar gauge wire and wind it to about the same size/diameter/girth as the original windings?? I really have no clue how I'd go about rewiring a pickup!
