I purchased this amp back in February off of groovaholic. After giving it another go, I prefer the sound of my Mesa Subway 800+. Below is the listing that groovaholic used as it had some specifics that should be noted. Amp comes in a nice Apache case and includes the manual. Price includes shipping. "I bought this great amp used last spring and sent it to Andy/agedhorse for a factory refresh back in July.
The factory-service is a bargain at $100 - but please consider that expense (plus the time & cost of shipping it to Andy and back) when comparing my price to other Streamliners which haven't been serviced.
Andy corrected a few minor issues and sent it back with a clean bill of health:
"Your amp's all sorted out, there were several contributing problems.
The amp had been worked on and incorrect parts installed which affected the current sharing of the tube backlite LEDs, they are a very specific part and a 20mA amber LED was used in a place where 30mA parts are required.
I replaced all 3 with the correct parts, a factory update part. I replaced the input jack and installed a new ground current steering harness factory update kit, cleaned the controls and bench tested it."
The amp had been rack-mounted when I bought it - so there are two small paint wear areas on the top front edge (see circled areas in my pictures) and the original feet were gone.
I replaced the feet with oversized, grippy "pucks" that absorb vibration and will hold the amp solidly even when you tilt your cabinet back.
The amp has a 3-tube preamp, and I've tried multiple different tube combinations to optimize the tone of the amp.
Here's the combination I like best:
V1 - The most common recommendation for these amps was a 5751 in V1, so I replaced the first tube in the signal chain (V1) with a JJ 5751 which gave more clean headroom and tightened things up.
V2 - the next tube controls the low and high EQ, so to further keep things smooth-sounding, I used a JJ12AX7MG (mid gain)
V3 - the final tube controls the midrange, and the huge lows of the Streamliner can sometimes overpower the mids, so I chose a JJ ECC83 to give the mids a strong presence.
All tubes were sourced from EuroTubes (their QC seems better than other tube resellers)"
