-- The Magellan 800 bass amp has sold -

I used the setup for some local gigs a few years back, where I would typically bring a Genzler Magellan 800 amp and 2 cabinets. I even tried adding one more cabinet on guitarist side of the stage - the 2 ohm mode of the amp handled that with no problem.

Most of the last few years, these have been stored in my house because our band went to in-ear monitors on stage and we have backline provided for travel shows. They were always stored inside the smoke free house, and always covered when transported.

Genzler BA12-3 - Bass Array speaker cabinets with Genzler soft cover per cabinet. 350W- 8 ohm - Speak-on and 1/4" input jacks - weight about 32 pounds each. Each cabinet is in very good condition. The covers have some scuffs and signs of wear, but the cabinets, corners, and handles are very clean.

I can’t believe these cabs are still here! If my situation were different I would be all over them—even with the estimated shipping cost.

Hi,

I'm in Petaluma. Am considering replacing my beloved EA VL-110 cabs. Played Genzler 110 today - Nice cab for sure. You had a chance to A/B your cabs to the 110s? Maybe a single 12-3 would meet my needs, though I'm pretty attached to my EAs...

I purchased the 12-3's before Genzler had so many different cabinet options. The 110 is their smallest. The 12-3 is their most popular cabinet. With the array of 4-3" speakers and the architecture, the bass sound covers the stage like it is a much bigger cabinet. When you stack these, they sound much more like a much larger set of cabinets. They are much lighter than many other cabinets, too.

Thanks - that's helpful. I'm only considering replacing me EA VL 110s to carry lighter cabs, so these really wouldn't make sense for me. Again, thanks for your response.

From what I can see the BA12-3 weighs about 3 pounds less than the VL110, is about 3 db more efficient, and goes a little lower but not quite as high. It also has a slightly larger footprint.
You also mentioned the BA10-2. I have both the 10-2 and the 12-3. As one would expect the 12-3 has a bigger bottom end and is a bit more efficient while the 10-2 is a bit more focused. Both have outstanding dispersion and are very vocal and smooth. I have not played in a setting where I really needed more than the single 12-3 so I would expect that one 12-3 could replace 2 VL110’s but I’ve not played a VL110 so am only giving a guesstimate. I have only heard good things about the VL 110’s.

Thank you for the discussion. What I like about the 12-3’s is good, clear sound, good lows and highs. The small cabinets sound much bigger than they are. They are well made abs rather light. I used to have SWR gear: a pair of 4x10 Goliath III, a 2x10, a 1x15. When I tried the Genzler at NAMM I was amazed at how good they sounded and how compact and light they were. I would gladly keep them but my band went to in-ears for live shows and the rehearsals, so I have not needed the Genzler in a long time.
