Details

I am the original owner of this stunning bass by Joseph Grubaugh and Sigrun Seifert of Petaluma, CA (www.gsviolin.com). Highly celebrated and awarded makers of violin family instruments, this was their first completed bass at the time. Their craftsmanship and material use is the best I’ve ever seen in a modern bass—a work of art. The instrument has only had one open seam in twelve years of ownership in any climate.

This bass has been an ideal companion through the last part of my studies and first decade of my professional career, winning my auditions in the Detroit Symphony, the Kansas City Symphony, as well as appearing in several final rounds of and on stage with orchestras such as the Chicago Symphony and The Cleveland Orchestra.

Its sound is very powerfully projecting and effortlessly clear, maintaining great warmth and detail to the back of any concert hall. It is a supreme audition instrument. The setup was retooled in 2018 by luthier Jed Kriegel to bring the bass to the highest standard of playability, including a removable chromatic extension.

The bass is located with my in the Detroit area. Contact information and QR code for photos is included in the attached image.

String Length: 41. 5”
Upper Bouts: 20.4”
Lower Bouts: 26.4”
Length of Back: 42.8”

Good luck with the sale, Brandino! This bass is one of the best orchestral audition basses I've heard. Clear, balanced, easy to play, sophisticated mature sound. I'm sure its next owner will appreciate it as well.
