I'd always like the looks of Ric basses, but not so much the price tag, so when I saw this bass for sale on FB Marketplace, I jumped. Originally, it came with Nordstrand Big Split pickups, and much as I love Nordstrands MM series, I didn't care for the tone of the Splits.

I'd been wanting to try the Lace Bass Bar pickups because I was impressed with their design, and I found they were a perfect drop-in replacement and also were very light weight. The sound was great.

I am not the first owner, but I did buy the bass from the first owner who had it made by a custom luthier in Bend Oregon. Unfortunately, for some reason, he had forgotten the name of the luthier so I cannot provide further details. On the other hand, whoever it was did a superb job, copying the Ric's dimensions as close to perfect as I could tell, right down to the approx. 33.25" scale length.

The bass has some great features. It is perfectly balanced, has neck-through-body construction, uses Hipshot Ultralite Machines, and a Hipshot bridge, the afore-mentioned Lace pickups, 24 frets, and the exact same wiring setup as Ric does. The three-way switch does what it should - you can select neck, bridge, or both pickups, and there is a volume and tone control for each pickup. It also features some cubic zirconium ("CZ") stones that serve as easily visible fret markers when you are playing on a dimly lit stage. The only other mod was to add a pair of Dunlop Straploks.

I also changed the knobs from the little Ric-style ones. Let me know if you prefer the smaller knobs, as I am sure they are in my surplus knob bag somewhere.

So, you ask, why am I selling this? Well, I don't like holding onto basses I don't play much and that's what the story is here. After buying a Jack Casady Signature, I found I wasn't playing this one much, and if I wasn't playing the Jack, I would pick up one of my five or six string basses instead. So, after thinking about this, literally, for months, I have decided to part company with it.

I have taken pictures of the bass from just about every angle. If you need more pictures or have more questions, please ask before making an offer or buying it.

Shipping prices have gone up significantly recently. I am estimating shipping at $90. If it is more, I will pay the difference.

Thanks for looking!
