I purchased this bass about a year ago, and it had been refinished with a transparent blue, though not a very good refinish. In the process of the previous refinish, the serial number and model had been removed, but you can clearly see that this is a SR1005EFM by the offset fret markers, the curved body, Bartolini radius pickups, and when you pick it up, the slightly thicker neck (slightly thicker than the traditional soundGear).
Since I've owned it, I refinished the bass with clear poly over the stained body (black, sanded back and then blue). I kept the neck stained with oiled for a faster feel (I know the poly would have made the neck feel sticky by comparison). This was my first refin with poly, so its not perfect, but it did come out very nice (there are some scratches and a nick here and there, but no major cosmetic issues, nor functional issues).
The A string tuner is missing its back (see pic).
The stock Ibanez preamp (not so good in my opinion) was replace with a 3-band Nordstrand.
Control layout is as follows:
* Volume Push/Pull(single/serial pickup coil select)
* Balance
* Mid Push/Pull (freq select, IIRC 400hz and 1kHz)
* Stacked Bass/Treble
Comes with a generic case
Action can get quite low.
