Details

I had this listed before, about a year ago, and decided to keep it and do some mods. Apparently I have no time for that. I start getting into it, then something comes up, then I forget about it, blah blah. Anyhow, I just picked up a Stingray Special 4H, and something needs to go.

Very good condition with a couple minor scratches, and 2 or 3 slight belt impression in the back, 2-3 mm wide. Pickguard shows some wear, as do the pickguard covers (previous owner got pretty aggressive on the E string, apparently.) Bridge shows a little bit of deglossing, but no rust.
  • Ebony headstock
  • Ebony fingerboard (less streaking upgrade)
  • 5-piece mahogany/maple neck
  • Gunmetal burst finish
  • D-tuner
  • Dunlop StrapLoks
  • 34" scale
  • 19 mm string spacing at bridge
  • 1.52" nut
  • 9.6 lbs
Kiesel gig bag included, in excellent condition

Items of note:
  • It has been rewired V-V-T, and I replaced the jack.
  • The bridge pickup, IMO, sucks. I think it's actually defective, though it ohms out properly. It's very poorly matched with the split coil (which actually sounds really good, IMO), both in lower output and just not really great tone for this bass. All my opinion, of course, but I think you'll agree. Really sucks the goodness out of the neck pickup if you try to blend them at all.
  • I bought a Nordstrand Power Blade and Big Blade (W&W) to replace the stock pickups. (Big Blade is a bar magnet, so even though it looks like it has 5 pole pieces, that's just cosmetic.) The Power Blade installed fine. The Big Blade would not fit the route. It's supposed to be a P2 route, but it's a couple hundredths too narrow in all dimensions. I tried to lightly sand out the cavity to accommodate, but I got interrupted...repeatedly...so I just blacked in the sanded bits, re-installed everything, and said, "F-it, I ain't got the time or the patience." See the last 2 pics before the pickup photos for what it looks like now...you really can't tell unless you pull the pickup out.
Here's what I'm proposing (prices dropped $100 on 10/14):

$800 - You get the bass and the gig bag.
$1050 - You get the bass, the gig bag, both Nordstrand pickups (Power Blade only installed for a few minutes, Big Blade never actually soldered) AND the used Nordstrand 3B preamp I was going to install. It's similar to the 3B-4A, but without the passive tone knob. So 3 knobs only, vol/vol stack, mid with pull freq. select, bass/treble stack. I can throw in a MusicMan battery box too, if you want to add that.

Prices include shipping.

In light of the recent scam ads, I'll just state that I'm happy to provide a phone number and more pics, like one of me with the bass in a pose of your choice. (I have almost no shame, so make risqué requests as you please.)
