Just acquired this road-warrior bass - but the neck is too thin for me. This is ideal for smaller person, Fender refugee, pro or student.
Warm, projecting mature sound - not the tinny output of the budget Chinese basses.
Original King label bears a partial Serial number (see photo) revealing only three digits - "048" - so the age of the bass is unknown. (H.N. White made these from the mid-1930's until 1965, so the bass is at least 60 and at most 90 years old.)
Re-set neck, re-glued seams, an 'eye-patch' to cover a whole in the bottom - it bears the scars of lengthy service. Previous owner played it in a symphony. Impressive finish.
Comes with an impressive array of features:
- manageable 42.5" string length (not the 43+ of many a King)
- German bow
- bow quiver
- Despiau bridge with adjusters
- Spirocore 'reds' (broken-in
premium professional strings)
- bass stand
- mute
- well-padded cover
- immeasurable 'mojo' - the classic sound of tradition
Great for bluegrass, country, rockabilly, jazz, classical.
Prefer local (Southern California) pickup; shipping adds $650.
Reasonable (no lo-ball) offers considered.
