Hello good people of bassland,

(2020s has sold. 2020 is still available).

Circumstances being what they are given my recent switch back to rackmount gear, and with there being nothing in my bank account buy cobwebs at the moment, I have decided to part with some previously un-partable-with gear.

For your consideration, I offer up a LBA 2020 and 2020s. They are magic little special-sauce-in-a-box transformers. (Take my word for it, the one with the carpet-side velcro on top is a 2020). Why is there velcro on top? I'm glad you asked. I do dumb things. It's a gift I have. I purchased one of each (at different times), and decided that I liked them best running the 2020 (to goose the low end a bit) into the 2020s (to goose the midrange a bit). I velcroed them together to save space on my board. I decided to leave the velcro on the top of the 2020, in the event you, like me, wanted to buy both, run them together and stack them for space-saving convenience. I could remove the velcro from both or either at your direction/discretion, but I'd be concerned about damaging the label on the top of the 2020. But I'm happy to do so, if you'd like.

Both are in minty fresh condition, and neither has left my house . . . because neither have I since March, 2020. They will come with their respective original boxes and warranty cards. I purchased the 2020 not that long ago. It is now discontinued and will be harder to come by. I purchased the 2020s at the original pre-order when it was first released. I sent it back to have it modded after it was determined that there was some low-end loss with the original pre-order configuration, the transformer was tweaked and now it is exactly like a current release 2020s.

Here is information from the manufacturer on the 2020s:

The 2020S is a custom designed 1:1 ratio high-impedance audio transformer. It has 1/4" input and output jacks (interchangeable) and it requires no power supply to operate. The 2020S is designed to be used with electric musical instruments and specifically to be placed between FX pedals to give your pedals more of a vintage-studio-gear sound. The steel core laminations provide a bit of a retro sonic signature. You'll probably notice a little bit of an upper HF boost and a coloration of the mids. Both of these aspects become more obvious when the 2020S is driven by a boost pedal or when multiple 2020S's are in use in a signal chain.

Features:
  • Custom wound LBA-2020S audio transformer.
  • Designed for Hi-Z signal paths.
  • No power supply required.
  • input and output jacks are interchangeable with no affect on performance.
Technical Information:
  • Impedance ratio: 1:1
  • Insertion loss: 0.5dB
  • Core: 82.7% steel. The remaining 17.3% is "secret-sauce".
  • Frequency Response: Varies depending on devices connected on in/out. Typical response (used with FX pedals) is flat from 10Hz-12kHz with a gradual boost reaching +3dB at 20kHz.
  • Weight: 7oz (198.447g)
  • Dimensions: 3.64" x 1.52" x 1.06" (92.456mm x 38.608 x 26.924)

Here is information from the manufacturer regarding the now-discontinued 2020:

Shrinking the gap between studio gear and FX pedals...
I think most are aware of a trend in recent years to put audio transformers in FX pedals in an effort to get closer to the sound of high-end analog studio gear. Unfortunately, that is often done as a DI output (XLR) and not a direct-to-pedal output. The 2020 allows you to put a high quality Lightning Boy transformer anywhere in your instrument's signal chain (1/4" jacks), giving any pedal some studio mojo before it hits your next pedal, amp, or DI Box. Plus, 2020's can be daisy chained for extra color!

This unit does not require a power supply to operate and it introduces no noise to your signal. The 2020 is a 1:1 ratio, high impedance, high performance audio transformer in a small pedal enclosure with 1/4" jacks. The audio transformer is custom designed and manufactured by Mike, in house. Its precision wound on a computer controlled transformer winding machine and features a core with a high level of Nickel to provide a wide bandwidth in a very small package. The transformer is housed in a MuMetal shielding can for excellent EMI shielding from external sources and its engineered to exhibit extremely low insertion loss. Input and output jacks are reversible with no change in performance, since its a 1:1 transformer.
There are many practical applications for this device when a smoother, more harmonically rich tone is desired. One example is to saturate the transformer by hitting it hard with a lot of signal from a clean boost pedal and then attenuate the output of the 2020 with a volume pedal. The 2020 is very graceful in how it digests such signals. Basically a layer of mid-focused warmth is created in such events. Its especially effective at smoothing out the digital edge common with most digital FX (reverb, delay, etc). The same can be said for digital synthesizers, but it can also be very beneficial with analog synths in creating a richer tone. Its possible to use this device with nothing more than an instrument and an amp or an instrument into a DI Box. That scenario would probably be most commonly done with an electric bass or synthesizer.
Technical Information:
  • Frequency response can vary quite a bit depending on source impedance. Total response is from 1Hz-70kHz. Below is a generic list of tested source impedances and the resultant frequency response. This information can vary a little bit and is generalized for simplicity:
    • Humbucker or Split-coil (P-Bass) pickup feeding into the 2020: Flat from 10Hz-5kHz with a super gentle high frequency roll off of about 1.5dB per octave. -3dB at 14kHz.
    • Single Coil pickup feeding into the 2020: Flat from 7Hz-28kHz
    • FX pedal feeding into the 2020: Flat from 2Hz-20kHz
  • THD+N =
    • 0.09% @1kHz when driven by 500mV sine wave.
    • 0.09% @80Hz when driven by 500mV sine wave.
    • 0.21% @20Hz when driven by 500mV sine wave.

I am asking $160 shipped for both of them, or $85 shipped each if purchased separately. I will ship within the continental US via Priority Mail within two business days of receipt of payment via Paypal.

Thanks for looking.
