EARLY CZECH MADE MTD GRENDEL, FRESH OUT OF REHAB.

Here are the vitals:

35" scale.

19mm spacing

Nut width 1.75

*UPGRADED HIPSHOT ULTRALITE TUNERS. (The original owner must have had some tuner related drama. The recently installed tuners are all Hipshot Ultralite 3/8 "Y" style. 4 of the tuners have exactly the same key paddle, the G string tuner is from a somewhat older batch manufactured by Hipshot that has no decorative ridge on it. You would not even notice unless it was pointed out.)

*ORIGINAL SPECIAL DESIGN EXPOSED POLE SINGLE COIL PICKUPS FROM BARTOLINI.

* PASSIVE WIRING HARNESS*. CTS pots orange drop cap.

*The original owner had the original pre-amp removed-and replaced it with an EMG system which was dead when I got it.

I have had a Grendel 5 before with these same pickups and original preamp. I can tell you from experience that this bass has the same tonal character and personality even without the preamp. The output level from these pickups is about average. The MTD vibe (ultra modern super slap tone) is present in this bass in spades. These pickups have the inherent tone baked in, it's not in the preamp. If anything you gain a little more "open" clear tone when run passive. This pickups are BRIGHT, but because they are ceramic/steel design, the brightness or "snap" is in the ultra high frequency range. If you put Nordstrands in this bass (which I can provide for an up charge) the high midrange would be much more in your face and this bass would crossover into rock and blues tone camp. As it is, I would characterize it as "modern" and would sound great in a gospel, funk R&B context.

*WENGE FINGERBOARD.

*Color: you tell me.

*Brand new strings setup and intonation.

*Hipshot B Style aluminum bridge recently sent back to Hipshot for a total re plate and reinstall.

*RECENTLY COMPLETED FRET LEVEL, CROWN AND POLISH. (Plays and feels like new. Low action)

*Dunlop strap lock.

*Hipshot mini knobs with rubber grips.

Finish condition: overall is good. I polished much of the player related fine scratches (around the pickups) out of the top clear coat. There is still evidence that this bass has been played a lot and on the back there are some deeper scratches in the clear coat but not through the color.

There is a ding on the body on the top side of a cutaway.
There is a ding on the edge of the headstock.
There is a hole by the B string tuner
There is a gouge near the G string tuner. (Original tuner must have come loose and broke the screw on the back, dragging it and creating the gouge. Just a theory. I consider this minor cosmetic.

*Ships in an early model SKB that has form-fit for this bass.
