Up for sale/trade today is a rare unicorn indeed. I recently acquired this beauty from TB member, Steve Millhouse (great guy by the way and awesome bassist!). This was one of the first three p basses hand-built by master luthier, Mas Hino, in conjunction with LaBella. Note that the headstock says "Labella" and "Olinto". The bass was built in the 2012-2103 timeframe.
As you can see it's black with a tort guard. Pickups were hand-wound by Mas and the bass sounds HUGE! Width at the nut is 1.75. Old school "C" shape neck - hefty (not "slim"), but she plays fast and easy. Steve kept the same Labella flat-wound strings on the bass, so these suckers are 8 - 9 years old! To be sure, I am not a flat-found guy but I thought someone may really appreciate these. If not, I'll toss in a new set of Labella RX-N4C nickel round strings for the new owner.
Tuners have the Labella name on them and seem to do an excellent job. I have no information as to the other hardware except to say that Olinto did not cheap out. As expected at this price point, the bass screams quality and attention to detail all the way around. I was so impressed, and this is why I'm selling, that I ordered a new one in Sherwood Green with a matching headstock as well as the exact neck profile I'm digging right now.
Cosmetically I'll rate it a 7 - 8 because there is some checking on the front but I'm unable to get a pic that will adequately show it. No checking on the back. Otherwise, the bass is in excellent condition. I've owned dozens of pre-CBS p basses over the years and this one absolutely has that familiar feel and sound - if that's your thing, and you want attention to detail then look no further.
While I'd prefer a sale, there is a (very) short list of basses I'd consider in a trade plus cash
deal. The first is an American Ultra P Bass (in white), second is a Xotic XJP-1T P/J bass and last would be a Roscoe LG3000.
