Seriously, I get so many basses where I think the only reason the guy is selling is because he doesn't know how to set a bass up, its a real treat to get a bass that plays like butter out of the box. The E and B need to come up about 1/64" for my taste ... but thats darn close! I bet you had to drop the E and B 1/64" on the lakland
Man, oh man. I see the exact same thing all the time. Seems like I always have to do my own setups the very first thing when I get a new bass. I do like my action very low, and I did lower the action on the Lakland a bit ;-)
I've never really measured my action, I just know when it feels just right
Actually, when I got the Warwick it took a couple weeks to get the setup just right on it. Partly because the neck took so long to settle in after a truss adjustment (super strong woods in that neck), but mostly because of the strings themselves I found. It had Warwick's Black Label strings on it which I didn't like at all. After a week or two I swapped those for a set of slightly used DR Hi-Beams (what's on there now) that I had laying around and it made a HUGE difference. Played like butter after that. The DR strings (B and E mostly) take a bit of work to get into the Warwick bridge, but it's definatly worth it. Enjoy!!!
Thanks. The Warwick is doing great so far, though I do miss the Elrick Singlecut already. The narrower string spacing is the only thing that I don't like so much, but I spent some time tweaking the bridge so that the B and E strings are closer together and the A, D, and G strings have a bit wider spacing. Seems to work pretty well that way.
I am planning on replacing the electronics. Later next week (once I get paid), I'll put in the order for a custom wired Noll preamp (Ritter uses them in his basses) - a 4-band with lo and hi-mids. And then I'll also be getting a set of Bartolini CB pickups to go with it. I'll be sure to record some before and after soundclips for comparison and post them.
I almost bought a pair of Lane Poors. I wanted to try them in my bolt-on. I saw that you were trying to get that Ibanez with the LPs. Do you know who it went to?
Dunno who that one went to. I was looking into some Lane Poors too, but they can be pretty pricey if you can find them at all. Especially the 5-string Jazz pickups it seems.
