So, ended up just replacing the blade pickups with a set of Seymour Duncan Hot Jazz, and... very little difference. I'd say the SD is definitely a superior bridge-only setup, but both on full and the blades sounded really really good. That being said, they were going through an Audere pre, which made a huge difference from stock pots.

Worth a cheap project, without a doubt. I don't know how they'd hold up on their own, but with a good pre, they are easily in the ballpark.

I had ended up buying them and pairing them with a Tone Monster preamp and they do sound pretty good. I agree, in a parts bass or something or with a good quality preamp they are a great value. I don't know if I would put them in a high dollar bass though.
