For sale Roscoe SKB Standard Plus 5

Just got off the phone with Roscoe and wow, they sure remember that bass, it had a natural mineral deposit where they usually put the 12th fret marker so they left it like that, one of a kind! june 2012 walnut ash natural mineral stain wood bird's eye maple

Thanks, yeah you're right it was night time so that was not an option but I took the pics hoping they'd come out well and put them up. If it doesn't sell in a month then I'll take more but it doesn't look like it's going to last that long

8.95 lbs, 35" scale, I get 18 mm when I measure it...18.3 is standard??

I'm fairly certain that Roscoe's standard string spacing is 18.3mm unless custom ordered otherwise. I could very well be wrong though...

Either way, that is a beautiful bass and I would love to take it off of your hands!

String spacing center to center at the bridge on your bass is .706", which is ~18.3 mm. This is the standard 5 and 6 string spacing on our bridges for all models.

I removed the strings, set G and B saddles exactly at 35" from nut, measured center indent to center indent and got 72 (/4=18).

73.2(/4=18.3) was roughly the far side of each outer groove (a little less).

What am I doing wrong?

Well, at the risk of sounding defensive - we don't make the bridges, we just use them. The dimensions I quote are from the manufacturer, and I would surmise that since they fit perfectly on the bass (considering the strings lining up properly on the neck, etc), that they are very consistent.

Further, measuring such small dimensions to exacting tolerances is tricky, especially since you're measuring an area and not a single point at each end of your measurement. I sometimes get 4-5 different measurements in a situation like that, and end up taking the average. I trust the milling machines that make the bridges more than a set of calipers, honestly. You're not doing anything wrong at all, but most likely there is a bit of wobble in where you are getting your measurements. Also, what are you using? If it's a ruler or tape measure, it's almost impossible to get that level of accuracy. Even if you're using a good set of calipers, it can be very tricky to be 100% accurate without a very clear and specific measuring point.

ummm.......
.706" = 17.9324mm
according to Google anyway...

My apologies, I meant to type .708", don't know why I did .706". Also, I've been using "18.3 mm" without double checking for years - and that comes out to 17.9832 mm, or close enough to 18 mm to just say "18 mm".

Okay now I'm really confused, are you saying that it is actually 18mm standard?

I've measured 3 times now with digital calipers, measured the calipers against a ruler to confirm they were accurate, and then used the ruler against the bridge and you can actually see the difference of over a millimeter when you go across all the strings.

OK, let's go with this:

The official number, which was given to me by Keith hisownself, after he measured is 18.3 mm. Any variations from that number are because of variations in the bridge, as we cannot change the spacing on those on a B style (which is what you have), and we don't change it from the factory setting on the A style bridge.

It landed in Norway and I'm the happy owner of this beauty. It took me a while to get accustomed to the string spacing, playing Fenderish's for over 30 years, but now I really LOVE IT !
Love it so much that I recently purchased a SKB 5+ Fretless whitch will hopefully arrive shortly.
Never got a chance to say thanks before Dave, but Thanks. Best instrument I've played ever.
