Let me just start by saying I genuinely went back and forth about posting this sale for a couple of months. This bass is really fantastic, I just personally never bonded with it. There's even a chance I'll change my mind on this one.
For sale I have an S. Martyn Blaze 5 string. This bass is killer! 30" scale (short scale), 16.5mm string spacing, SUPER lightweight (5.9lbs!!! on my luggage scale), and tons of tonal variety from the 3 strategically placed single coil pickups. I bought this bass earlier this year from @John leyda who is a fantastic guy and an S. Martyn aficionado (and fellow Ohioan). I've used this bass on maybe a dozen gigs and a couple of recording sessions, but it's spent most of its time in my possession in my home studio. I have to say that Samuel Martyn makes some of the finest basses on the planet. I've owned a number of high end basses and this one is just as good as any other "boutique" instrument. He's definitely one of the innovators of the "modern" electric bass, especially in the headless and short scale world. Anyone who tells you that you need a 35+ inch scale length for a good B string needs to play one of these, as the B is better than many long scale basses I've owned.
Controls are: Volume (PP A/P), blend, passive tone, bass, mid, treble. One switch controls the mid frequency, while the other switch changes what pickups are engaged. Down is the outside two, middle is all three, up is the front two.
Along with the 30" scale and 16.5mm spacing, this bass also has mandolin fretwire. If you've ever wondered why players like Lee Sklar swear by this fretwire on their basses, this is a good opportunity to see why.
Overall the bass is in great shape. It's in almost the exact same condition as it was when I got it. All the electronics and the truss rod all function perfectly. There is one very tiny ding on the "headstock" that I managed to capture and one tiny ding on the body that's almost unable to be seen. The pickups have a little bit of wear where you can see the strings made contact with the covers. Also, there are a couple of frets that buzz slightly depending on how low the action is and how hard you play. I have a very light touch, so it never bothered me, but if you're a bit more heavy handed you may get a little buzz at certain points. Where I noticed it the most was the 3rd and 21st frets of the G string and the 8th fret of the A string. I'm also using very light gauge stainless steel strings, so switching to a heavier gauge will likely remedy this a bit as well due to the higher tension.
I'm asking for $2300 shipped within the lower 48 states, or a little less if you're in southern California and want to meet up. Paypal or Venmo G&S preferred. Trade interests would be other shorter scale 5 string headless basses (32" or shorter) with tight string spacing (anything below 17.5mm).
