Sadowsky RV4 in '59 Burst with VTC
2013 Sadowsky RV4. '59 Burst. Vintage Tone Control. Hum Cancelling Sadowsky pickups. Fantastic sound and playability.
I won't go into excruciating detail about how great Sadowsky Metros are. There are terabytes of data devoted to that here on Talkbass. And it is all true. This RV4 is killer. Even, huge in a mix, never muddy, perfect fretwork. It is totally silent with the Hum Canceling pickups.
I've always appreciated the little things about this bass that, in the aggregate, really set it apart. The high end of the fretboard is micro planed lower than the rest of the board, which ensures that the frets can always be dressed for perfect playability. The nitro finished satin neck is one of the smoothest and fastest I ever played. It feels like a broken in vintage neck. The case is light and protective. The fret work is as perfect as you get. There are no dead spots. The downsized Jazz body is the perfect size. The hardware is top notch. The quick release bridge allows fast string changes. The VTC control is incredibly useful when in passive mode and when combined with the preamp provides an incredible amount of flexibility.
And that preamp. Always present, never muddy. Extended highs if you want them. Use the VTC to tone down the top end. I never get lost in a mix with this bass. It always sounds huge with tight, focused bass, without having to push the mids.
Weight: 9 pounds 5 oz on a digital food scale.
I've gigged this bass. A lot. It has a scrape on the end of the head stock. A scratch near the strap button by the bridge. It has an almost invisible ding on the back of the neck at the 12th fret. See pics for details. The pots for the pickup pan tend to get scratchy when turning them. I usually hit it DeOxit when I change batteries, which is every 6 months or so. Otherwise the bass is perfect.
I am selling because I am really a passive jazz bass person. I intend to get a Lakland 44-60.
I' m not really interested in trades, but maybe a US Lakland 44-60 would sway me.
