Always wanted to try one of these, beautiful, just not in the cards right now. Have sold all my USA jazz 5's due to the wide nut width and uncomfortable neck, so the 1 & 3/4 nut along with the 35" scale seems like the jazz of my dreams.

I'm just worried about the 35" scale length. I guess it makes the B string very usable

I have one. LOVE my MarloweDK5 (bought here at TalkBass). Plays great, sounds great. At $1750 for this one I’m seriously considering buying a second one... and I’m in discussions with Sandberg now for a custom build. One thing I requested upfront?... 35” scale. The second I picked my Marlowe up, I fell in love. Feels great to me, but you never know until you get it, right?... I also just bought a Sandberg Ida Nielsen 5 (same neck specifics as the Marlowe, but 34”), and it doesn’t feel the same. The pickups in that one have a real “modern” sound, too - great for slapping and popping, but that’s not my thing. I didn’t know until I got it, though. Probably be selling it right away. Who knows? Maybe it’ll fund this purchase :)

I’m a huge Sandberg fan after trading for one. My Sandberg has quickly become my #1 bass beating out PDN Stingrays, Fender custom shop, Ric, Vintage Fender and a Golden Era Warwick. I did not expect that to happen. If you’ve been thinking about one, make the jump.

I concur. Ken Smith still holds overall #1 spot for me, but my Sandberg MarloweDK5 moved ahead of all other “Fender” style basses in my arsenal the day I got it. And I also have many (Fender, Lakland, Music Man)...

Wow, thanks for the great review! Yeah that's a very nice bass, but I need the $ to finance my latest GAS (already placed the order): a Fodera...

Yikes!... you do need some money for that :)

Yeah well... I thought 'once in a lifetime'... Already sold my AM STD Pbass, and will also sell my MM SR5 at a later time. Going back to 2 or 3 basses max, including the Fodera. That's the plan. Wish me good luck! :D

Good luck!... totally get it. Bought my first Smith a few months back, then sold many basses I thought were “untouchable”. Now I have 4 Smiths :)

I'm really thinking of getting a 4 string Sandberg myself. What is it that you like so much about them? Currently I'm playing a Fender Custom Shop, but I really want something more modern, and the usual suspects aren't really calling my name when it comes to the "super jazz bass" thing.

I love the jazz bass string spacing and these have that so for me that was kind of the cost of entry. What makes it stand out is really the tone, the sustain, and the weight. Mine is a VM4. The reverse P and the MM pickup are just amazing and full. It honestly sustains longer than my neck through basses, and it is super light. In passive mode you also get a tone knob which is pretty cool

Tempting. I really like that it was done in the NOS finish, yet with the vibration treatment. The neck appears to be quartersawn (though I'm not sure)—is that the case? Couldn't see anything about that in the specs on the Sandberg website.

Looks like Quartersawn to me too, but can't certify...

Forgive me for crashing your thread but I just gotta tell you people that Sandberg basses are incredible. If they can get these sounds out of a Precision bass, can you imagine the definition and tonality of a jazz bass. If I'm lying, I'm dying! Please watch! GLWYS!
