Upright bass for sale! SB200 3/4 Shen Willow Flatback. Pirastraso Obligato Strings, New Ebony Tailpiece, Kolstein Bridge.
Asking price: $4500 (OBO)

Great bass for both orchestral and jazz. Adjustable bridge with wooden wheels. In good condition - sounds great, stays in tune, minor cosmetic scratches, including a chip on the left shoulder. Small crack on the lower bout, repaired in 2015 by Rutman's Violins in Boston. Sound post recently adjusted by Paul Perley's Cellos.

This has been an excellent instrument for me, only selling it as I upgraded. Let me know if you any questions! Price negotiable.

I came here to argue with you, but holy smokes, you're right! All this time I thought it only had a carved top. When I went to write the listing I put down sb-150, since that's the hybrid, but the sticker doesn't lie! I've owned this bass almost 10 years . The things you learn on here.. Oh well, I am still happy with my "upgrade" . Thanks for stopping by!

Just to clarify, this bass you're selling is fully carved. Sometimes a roundback is referred to as a "carved back"; but a fully carved bass simply uses solid wood with no laminated wood surfaces, regardless of back shape. That describes the SB200.

I've always been impressed at the woodgrain on those willows.

I'm set, but at $4500, this is a no-brainer for anyone seeking a solid carved bass.

i've seen, played, and heard a number of these in person.

they're really lovely basses.

great deal for a student, backup bass, jazz bass, even a budget orchestra bass. i played in an orchestra briefly next to a player who was relying on one of these (i think his primary instrument had been damaged?) and it really held its own very well up against single maker, if not pedigree, instruments.
