An unexpected and lovely bass popped up, and I'm selling my beloved Zon Sonus Todd Johnson 5st with 3 pickups!!! Super versatile bass, ultra-stable neck, and an interesting pickup switch/combination system!!
Here some specs:
Zon Sonus TJ5 Custom 2010
Bridge : Zon high mass, 17.5mm string spacing at bridge.
Ash body, Spalted Maple -with a little flame- top, composite neck satin finish, 26 medium frets, phenowood fingerboard, black hardware with light weight Gotoh tuners
Weight: 9 lbs 4 oz
Pickups: 3 Bartolini soapbars
Preamp: Zon-Polyfusion ZP-2 custom 3 band preamp, with 3 pos switch for pickup combinations plus pickup pan control, 9 volt.
Bass : + - 15dB @ 30Hz
Mid: + - 15dB @ 330Hz
Treble: + - 15dB @ 3 KHz.
Neck is fast, and feels great... a little bit thicker than my 97' Zon Sonus but still super comfy. I haven't touch the truss rod since I got it, it's simply not necessary!! Any tuning/action can be reachable without affecting the neck position. This, plus the unique pickup system, makes this one a extremely versatile bass!!!
As I mentioned before in the description, the small switch chooses 2 of the 3 pickups: position 1 for neck/middle, position 2 for neck/bridge, and position 3 for middle/neck; then you can use your normal pickup pan pot to balance between both pickups to your taste. I need to make a small comment here: for some reason, on the 3 pos. the balancer works in reverse : on pos. 1 and 2 turning clockwise you get more rear pickup, but on the pos. 3 turning clockwise gives you more of the front pickups... I haven't had anybody fix it yet because it doesn't affect playability and doesn't justify to mess with the preamp, but I want you to know before get the bass and find it out. Also, there's a small finish rash in the back of the upper horn and a couple finish nicks near the output jack; nothing important but they're there. I can always give you more detailed pics if you want them, just send me a pm!
Comes with an original and very good condition Zon hardcase. Price is quite firm at $4,000 via Paypal F&F. As I mentioned before, I'm after a very special bass, but I'm tempted for MTD 535, 534 and Super 5!! My dream bass: A 535/534 with the Super 5 preamp conf. I'll add some $$$ to meet the price for the right bass.
Thanks!!!!
