2 New Thunderfunks!!!!

Dave Funk has done it again! Check it out 2 new Thunderfunks the TFB 800 B2 and now a TFB 600 B2. The web site describes The TFB 600 B2 this way:

It's the merging of an improved TFB550-B with its big sister, the TFB800-B2. The result is a more affordable, lighter, punchier amp with a bigger bottom and 2-ohm load capability, plus all the other improvements of the TFB800-B2, like larger heatsinking on the power transistors, a larger cooling fan to go with it, input jacks are now Switchcraft with steel barrels, and surge protection to protect the amp from the most common cause of power transistor failure, voltage surges, to make the amp as bullet-proof as possible. :hyper:

Looks pretty cool. It seems like the 4ohm power is down quite a bit in order to achieve 2ohm operation. There aren't any specs on the 600, but it seems like it would be less powerful than the old 550, which was close to the wattage of the newest 800 at 4ohms.

I guess for those who primarily work under 2ohm conditions, these would be nice options.
 
What I find encouraging is that Dave continues to improve on his original design without sacrificing the integrity of the product. He seems to be paying attention to market trends and player’s wish lists and making tweaks that reflect that…Love my TFB-750-A but I do admit to having gas pains!:help:
 
I own a TF800 and it sounds killer.


The 750 was always 630 watts at 4 ohms. What Dave did was fix the amps drive capability to get to the 800 mark.

The 750's specs are in the owners manual.

TFB750-A Serial Numbers 1001 to 1199

POWER: 750-watts into 2 ohms

630-watts into 4 ohms

Now that I didn't know! My TFB-750-A Serial # 1118, I thought was 400 wts at 8 ohm...750 wts at 4 ohm and somewhere around 900 wts at 2 ohm. Thats a big diference between what the manual listed for specs what Dave was talking about here a while back and what you just revealed:confused: Am I missing something?
 
The 600 fills a void.

That is high build quality medium power solid state lead sled. Something not constructed to price point, but not obnoxiously priced.

Having lived with a TFB-420 for three years, I'm still enjoying living with a medium power solid state lead sled. I'd be curious to hear a 420 to 600 comparison.

Funny to hear the TFunks referred to as "lead sleds". I mean, I know what you're saying - I feel it everytime I walk into a club with my TFB in one hand and LMIII in the other :)

But I remember when I thought the TFBs were ridiculously light too.

Rick, How do you decide which one to take out? I own a tube 800 but haven't used it in a while.

So after I got the LMIII, the TFB was my backup for awhile. But then I started drifting back to the Funk again, and the LMIII is now the back-up. Seems more right that way :)

Actually, there's more to the story. I had Epifani cabs with the Funk. Got the LMIII because I had GAS and was unhappy with that amp/cab combination. So I got some Bag Ends and those were a much better match for the Mark. But then I got tired of the Bags, so back to the Epi's, and that necessitated a Funk revival. More than you probably wanted to know...

A simple 1% worth of distortion would likely explain this, that isn't listed in the specs but, how do they slightly more than double the power dropping impedance? Example, 305 watts @ 8ohms and 630 watts at 4ohms. Most amps don't even double, and I was under the impression that all else being equal, the most you could hope to do was double power by halving impedance. I do like all the mid sweeps and the labeling that's easy to read in the dark.
