Ampeg SVT Classic-WHAT CAB?

I am really really gassing for a Ampeg SVT Classic ever since I got this damn tech 21 VT bass, I want the real thing, the sound I have herd my entire life since the 70's! one of the things that is stopping me from getting one is, if I buy the head, it will be a long time before I can afford a new cab to go with it, right now I have the TC electronics BC410 that goes with my TC bh500, question is, would this SVT sound any good through this TC 410? Like I said, I would have to use this cab for a long time until I had the SVT paid off, I do not want to get this SVT and have it sound like crap through this TC cab. Thanks for any info!

PS. I did do a search and there is nothing I found talking about the SVT through a TC 410 cab.

It will likely work, but using 8 ohm cabs with an SVT is not recommended. At very low volumes you'll be OK, but start pushing the volume up and it will stress tubes and output transformer a lot quicker than running it at the right impedance for an SVT (4 or 2 ohms) and can cause early failure. I've done it with rentals but I would never do it with my own.

This.

There is only one way to know how a certain head and cab combination will sound, and that's to do it. If your cab is, indeed, a 4-ohm unit, then the head will be quite happy pushing it. Whether it will sound good, otoh...

Wow. You would misuse other peoples gear knowingly but not your own?
Jimmy does have a point about matching impedance, morals aside.
If you are after the classic ampeg 8x10 sound try looking at sealed cabs, or a cab that does not put out the low lows

I don't know if this adds anything to the discussion, but I am very happy with my new rig which is an Ampeg SVT-CL into a 4 Ohm Bergantino HD410.

I feel that this rig can get classic SVT tones or more modern bite without ever sacrificing warmth. I keep the master between noon and two o'clock which just seems to make everything breathe properly, although my natural inclination would be to dime it, but the master volume on the CL is extremely handy in my opinion.

I'm lucky that the local Bergantino dealer also had the NV610, NV412 for me to compare to the HD410, I found the tone of the 410 tighter and generally more to my liking. they had a TC BC410 and RS410 in stock but I didn't even try them with the SVT. The RS410 is 8ohm and unsuitable, I had the budget to look beyond the BC410 so I didn't even try it. Also the fact that the tweeter is non attenuatable nor defeatable ruled it out for me.

I highly doubt the SVT Classic will sound like crap! Its an upgrade no matter what with that cab of yours. Its true an 810 is THE cab for that amp but you should be very happy either way. Ive tried my SVT through a Mesa PH610, (2) GK SBX410's, and a Heritage 810 (current setup) and thought they all sounded good but the 810 is the shizz!

When you order an SVT and the backline company brings you an 8ohm cab with it you'd be shooting yourself in the foot saying anything to them. With a company that clueless you might end up with no amp at all before they sorted it out.

And I agree with people saying a large part of the SVT sound is that 8x10 cab. To tell the truth I'd be happier using that cab with an 800RB or a Shuttle 6.0 before using an SVT Classic with another cab.

what I am really looking for is that nice high end/midrangey growl you can get when digging in with this Vt bass pedal I just got, so In thought the real ampeg would be the answer, but if you guys have a cheaper and more suited option for my TC 4x10 cab, then I am all ears. thanks again TB
