Chromes: Scooped or not?

Check out Garth Fieldings review on the D'Addario Chromes:



At 1:11-18 he states that flatwounds are scooped! When I heard him say that, I was like: 'What? Chromes are scooped? He's joking, right? No flatwound is scooped. Right?'

And that 'right', made me decide to create my first poll on TB, because I really want to know what the TB-community thinks:

D'Addario Chromes (or other flats): Are they scooped?

Some flats are more scooped then other's but still very little. Chromes are not scooped I agree.

Chromes have more high mids than any other string I've ever heard. Scooped? Not even close.

There was a thread on here comparing the Chromes to the new Fender Stainless Steel Flats and from what I recall there was a mid scoop in the Chromes compared to the other flats that were analyzed with some fancy science gadgets. When I listen to them I think they sound kind of lacking in the low mid range, but I also usually hear them through Ampeg equipment.

Not scooped, especially after they have been broken in. A bit more high mids than other flats.

I guess compared to XL's they're mid scooped, but I hear them as having a good bit of high mids, too.

If you interpretted that high-mid as treble, you could maybe consider them scooped. Compared to another flatwound without it, anyway.

Your recording sounds sort of thin overall--good, but thin. Maybe that's what inspired the comment.
