Good Strings for Metal/Hardcore??

You might need to be a little more specific to get the right answer, but here are my suggestions:

Drop D isn't that big a deal. Any .105 .85 .65 .45 set will work. D'addario nickel wound strings are easy to find and cheap. If you want a really bright tone, go for the steel wound.
Drop C is a little tricky, and will more that likely require some adjustment to work. That in mind, I can't see a practical way to do drop D and drop C on one bass if that is your intention. When I use this tuning I've been trying the D'addario EXL160BT set because it has a .120 "E" and heavier gauges on the other strings. My problem is they don't seem to last very long and don't have a lot of character. A .110 set might work for you, or the GHS Boomers with a .115 "E" may work for you too.

How you play and what sound you want matters a lot.

If you can't find what you want in a store www.bassstringsonline.com is awesome.

On my J style 5 string, the D'Addario Pro Steel Round Wounds were really bright; after a month, they sound a little more warm, but still with good bite. Not too pricey, either; for the price of one set of boutique, you might get to try 2 different types. I use bassstringsonline.com. They and other online stores are almost half the price of my local music store. D'Addario makes good affordable bass strings.
