Did Anyone Ever Post This? Bryan Beller Intro to Pedalboards

Maybe they didn't include his name so didn't come up on Search. Weird. B/c I'm the repost nazi, so sorry if so! :D

I also like the way he layers/stages his OD/distortion. When I built my new board for this hard rock/metal band, that's pretty much what I did and then just added a flanger at the end. I don't have as many pedals as him so no need for a comp at the end, and I just use my Mesa's onboard one anyway, although he's doing it for different reasons.

I think its pretty cool. It should probably be stickied for noobs. It seems like the question, "what should my first pedal be?" comes up all the time.

Also, I really dug the distortion on the MXR more than I expected.

Yeah I figured it wouldn't hurt to repost and make sure his name was/is tagged w/ the thread for sure this time. I'm kinda redoing my PB at the moment, so was a good refresher for me.

I noticed both BB and I have the exact same settings for the Xotic Bass BB and that was before I even saw the video for comparison's sake! ;) :D

I actually had a wah not too long ago but teh band axed it... :bawl: I got too wah happy.

If I had more pedals, I'd probably throw a comp at the end of his signal like he does. Makes sense. I used to put my comp first in line simply b/c it was "always on" but it seems to work better if you're running a longer than normal chain w/ no loops. Also certain pedals just would NOT play nice w/ my 18V output basses unless I was hitting my EBS comp first.

I found that somewhat strange too, although Amps tend to run the controls from left to right, so maybe he was hoping to match that. Personal preference, but I would think it would be much more of a pain when running cables.

I guess it's less of an issue when you're running the cables underneath like that, but still ends up with longer cables than necessary, if that matters. I guess that's just how his mind works, so he set it up in the most intuitive fashion for him.

My Morley goes in and out on the right side, so it's a bit of an oddball, but I have my pedals arranged how I use them, not necessarily in 'order', so I am in a similar boat...

My problem with using comps for make up gain is if you have noise issues using a comp in that manner can exacerbate the problem

Also,...since when is the Aphex Big Bottom a "compressor/boost"? Or am I missing something.

Well I'm pretty sure that's a Demeter Compulator, which like the EBS, is pretty solid and whisper quiet. I know my MultiComp was, even through a very high-end Aviom+IEM setup. But I see your point on other items.

It's not so much the noise of the comp but any noise issues earlier in the chain, but if you have those properly sorted out it shouldn't be too much of an issue.
