What I started with:
Locally milled and glued 1-3/8" basswood blank.
Bookmatched 1/4" redwood boards from Oregon Wild Wood.
2006 Squier Affinity P-Bass, a $100.00 Guitar Center rescue. Parts used include the neck (with the headstock reshaped), neck screws, bridge and strap buttons. These parts have been around the block; this is the fourth body they've been on.
Hipshot Ultralite 1/2" tuners.
LaBella flat wound strings.
The electronics include a Seymour Duncan SCPB-3 pickup, Alpha 250k mini pots, .100mf capacitor and a Switchcraft output jack.
Miscellaneous stuff includes Stew-Mac five-ply pearl pickguard material, pearl topped knobs and a Gotoh string retainer.
6 pounds, 1 ounce! That's light. It is a touch neck heavy but I accept that in return for being relieved of the burden of a beast.
Finishing schedule, body: three coats Deft sanding sealer, three coats Stew-Mac transparent Cherry Red on the redwood, 1/16" black vinyl pinstripe tape, 12 coats Deft clear gloss.
Finishing schedule, headstock: two coats Zinsser white shellac primer, three coats Dupli-Color black, six coats Deft clear gloss.
