Bass Collection 5 String Passive HELP

Hi there first thing to say is that its good to be back . ive just logged in and seen that i havent been here since 02-12-2004. Damm thats a long time.
Very odd considering that i have played bass and been online pretty much every day since then.

ive got an old bass and i don't know what the model is.

Its a an old Bass Collection 5 string passive thing but other than that i no nothing about it. its the first decent bass i actuall got and was second hand at the time. so heres a couple of pics and im hoping somone knows any more about it.

Yes the SB315 if I remember rightly.I had a black one back in 1998,paid £150 secondhand a good bass. These were popular here in the UK in the late 80's early 90's.

SX do a copy of it now but the 4 string version SB301,and the bass centre here in the UK have the Bass collection 'Speakeasy' range,same looks but again only in the 4 string.
If I remember it is VVT & a blend control,they were well made and a nice looking bass.

I bought a 4-string model in '87 which seems very similar to yours. Do you have the phenolic fretboard? It was so beautiful and played so nicely. The electronics were noisy so I decided to change out the pickups for EMG's, and used it alot at first, but in the end it just didn't have the punch and depth I needed. Now it sits on the wall as a museum piece, but I still love it. Anyone want it?:)

I know its confusing
blame the Nanyo company

actually you are BOTH correct
the B and the G are wound not as intended
but its his bass he can make it sane or insane to his needs tuning wise

Right thanks for all the help on this. the Bass may be strung oddly but its more of an orniment these days just rattling round my room so itll stay like that for the fore seeable. Its actually tuned eadgc so i assume your saying that the E and C are wrong(?).

I dont play it anymore but wouldnt really want to get rid of it as its like an old friend. I play a warwick thumb bass now so it doesnt get a look in.

so i think we are saying the 305 as its passive, right? is that the bottom of the line job?

You say it's passive but there are 4 knobs. Can you tell us what they are?

And yes, your E (thickest string) is strung wrong, your C is fine. I did have two Bass Collections, and yours seem to be a genuine one, not an SX.

Hi off the top of my head as ive not played it in over two years. i think its
volume
treble
bass
and the others chnages what pick up is more prominent but i could be wrong on that. ill have a look when im back at home.

That's probably blend. Are you sure it's passive? I think if there is a "bass" knob - unless it's cut-only - it may be active. What's in the cavity? Can you get some pics of the cavity?

it must be pasive as ive never chaged a batery in it. Well i say it must be as ive never looked.

Would it work with out a Batery? i know my Warwick doesnt like it when the Batterys low. I havent seen anything on the net that says they made a passive 5er thought. so ill defo check it out when im back home on Wednesday.

If it's rarely used then the battery may last very long. The best way is to check the cavity. I am guessing it's active, probably an SB315, see-thru-red. But since your pictures are out of focus, it's difficult to make a proper guess.

Black hardware rules out any higher model (SB325 and so on which had gold hardware). If I'm right then it has an alder body, rosewood fingerboard, SGC single coil pickups.

its saying that theres a serial number inside the cavity at the back, the serial should also give the year of production.

For my licensed SX SB301 copy, with 4 knobs, there is a vol and tone control for each pup. However, the real Bass Collection SB301 that I bought used (but no longer have), ALSO with 4 knobs, they were vol, blend and a tone for each pup. Both basses are passive.
