I can't believe how many opinions there are on gear in this forum. It 's all about your passion and what your going to put into being a good bass player.

It doesn't matter if you have a 100.00 SX or a 5,000.00 Vintage Fender. Samething goes for amps.

When I started playing in 1966 you either had a Fender or some sort of knock-off if you could jam it didn't matter.

Remember that kid in High School with the brand new Corvette. same principle.

I hear all this stuff about string and tone. I use old strings , I fon't know what they are. My low end comes from the meaty part of my fingertips and the high end when I use a little of my finger nail. It's worked for 40 years.

I kinda agree about the bass thing, but not that. I don't think it's a good idea to skimp too much on the amp/cab.

Something like an SX can be modded into shape, but crappy amplification can sound like farts, and there's no fixing it.

If you had all this gear to choose from in 1966, you'd be talkin about whats best n all that!

And in 1966, a fender or some sort of knock off? Vox? a 60's Vox is miles better i recon!

So if the quality of the tuners is so low that it wont stay in tune through a song, or if the bridge is so poorly designed that intonation is impossible, or if the electronics fizzle and pop out mid song..or the neck is so bowed you could hunt elk with it....non of that would matter in the least bit right? These are not opinions but factors of reality. Ever listen to Bob Dylan back "in the day" when people were playin those fenders and knockoff's? He said sumthing about the times changing..and helpin out or gettin out of the way...sumthin like that..im too young and stupid to know.

i gotta disagree on the amp a cheap bass will sound awesome through a good amp but an expensive bass through a cheap amp will sound like trash

Old strings are part of your gear guy. You like them. Thanks for sharing your opinion on your preferance for strings.

blue, you kinda answered your own question yourself...what works for you won't work for me ( or the 10,000 others here on TB ) let's see you go and buy a 100.00 bass, and have the tone and playability equal up to a 600.00 bass out of the box.

I do a lot of session recording. I even have 3 of the exact same basses in my family among the others, that even though they are the same bag of parts, not a one of them sounds like the other EVEN with the same strings on them all.

as far as amps go...my #1 priority is to have that unit as good as my money can afford, because THAT is your most important asset IMO as well.


as far as SNOBBERY? well just because I see someone here with 25 basses that are worth than my house, I NEVER consider it snobbery. They are in a quite different cash-flow bracket than I am...and that's it..

if you have one bass and amp that suits YOUR needs...I'm not jealous or envious of you, but you obviously don't use your TOOLS like I do.........

Even though I don't agree with the way the OP worded his post, I do agree that there are alot of snobby and "Holier than Thou" attitudes copped pretty regularly on this forum.

Especially if someone asks a "dumb" question, or has an opinion that differs from the mob mentality.

People take themselves way too seriously sometimes and egos run rampant.

If it weren't for the moderators, it would be very hard to get any decent info due to the constant bickering and threads degenerating into pissing matches.

great story...was it a guitar or bass?

All in all this is a great guitar of great quality gor a low price..... Kudos to Walmart as well, they delivered in a large over padded box packed with packing peanuts so the item does not get damaged. and I got it only 1 week after I ordered it, and so close to christmas as well.....
I recommend to everyone that is looking for an inexpensive bass guitar...... Pick this one up.
