So I've got a Gibson Thunderbird and I'm tired of always having the hardshell even though I know its better to keep it in there. Does anyone know where i can find a gigbag that'll fit it either perfect or ok? Preferably leather but any feedback is good. I've been looking for a while but i haven't any luck.

Unfortunately they seem incredibly difficult (if not impossible) to come by at the moment. I was lucky and someone here offered to sell me an epiphone one - that isn't all that great actually. Real thin, but it does the job. Only other options I found in a week's worth of searching were to:
A. Buy the epiphone gigpack here [This invalid link has been removed] and sell what ya don't need.
B. Email this guy [email protected] . Didn't check your location, but he's the Ritter Bags US distributor. He told me they haven't had a shipment in a while but they might possibly get some come august. Another source said that Ritter is going under and there aren't going to be any bags in a while - but I don't know.
C. Go to all your local music stores and see if they've got something that will fit it.
I couldn't find anything online, and the couple of oversized bags I did find wouldn't fit it. Traben and Dean if I remember correctly. Good luck, and please post if you find anything as I wouldn't mind upgrading the one I presently have.

Hey, thanks for the info. Is it a fairly solid gigbag or is it just a thin covering? I don't take my T-bird out cuz I don't want to carry the case around, and the gigbag I have now is too flimsy. If you could compare it to another gigbag, give a quick review or pic, I'd be grateful as I might order one too. Thanks.
I have one that is made by Musicians Friend, fits it well and seems pretty well protected. I picked mine up with my bird though so I don't know the price but it's worked great for me.
Man, you guys would be brave (or foolish) trapsing around with a T-Bird in a gig bag, with as many broken headstocks as you see on T-Birds, that big ol' paddle headstock angled back like that and that tiny little area behind the nut... that's all flirtin' with disaster...
For my 200 dollar Epi-Bird I have a reasonable 50.00 bag and could care less, but a Gib-Bird would NEVER be in a bag as long as I had a HSC available---EVER!!!

I carry one of mine in a Ritter gig bag - very carefully. It is one of two '76 Bicentennial Tbirds I own. This one has already had a neck repair. I don't worry about it as much. My other one I've had since it was new, and it is in excellent condition, so I don't carry it in a gig bag - in fact it hasn't left the house in years.
I wouldn't carry any of my Gibson made guitars in a gig bag.
I know plenty of people use them without incident, I know plenty of people that (for all intents and porpoises) NEED to use a gig bag (with public transport as a consideration) and I know of plenty of people who just prefer a gig bag... I've always carried my basses and guitars in hardshell cases. I see the biffs, scuffs and dings in my cases and realize that the case is there for protection, first and foremost.
The one guitar I have with a gig bag got a bent tuning key for the sake of convenience. But it's a Tele, it can take it.

I hear ya's on all the above. That's why my T-bird never gets out to play. :/ The case is huge too and doesn't fit in my trunk. Just makes it into the back seat and I have to work it a bit. I think that bass may be going on the chopping block soon - it's going to be a waste of a beautiful bass just hiding in my bedroom.

dude, the hardshell for the gibson can't be any bigger than the one for the epi..that thing is huge,and i never have any problems fitting it into my car.unless your car is really small?

Mine's also one of the rare 5 strings. That may add to the size, but I don't know fer sure.

People tend to treat a hard shell case rougher because it can take it, so it is going to get scuffed and dinged more than a gig bag would. When I use a gig bag I'm far more careful with it than I would be with a hard case.

My T-Bird is difficult getting across a vehicle, I don't mess with it and drop the seats and run it lengthwise.
